Yep, Ultrasurf will work but as it is designed to only allow people to access web pages it will kick you off if you start trying to access a video service like Netflix.

But having said that, Ultrasurf will allow you to access the Netflix US page if you just wanted to look at it and you can in fact watch a movie using it. The reason for this is that Netflix only checks at the start that you are in the US. Once a movie is underway, they dont check, even though Ultrasurf has disconnected you.

So, realistically you can use Ultrasurf because its only needed to get you started.

Hope that great rant makes sense

I set up initially with a Apple TV - Yes - works good.

Went out toady & thought about buying a $129 WDTV

I got the Boxee from JBhifi - $199 pickup instead

Pics run fine. Yes, it's a goer

The wdtv is a 500mhz device - the boxee is a 1200mhz divorce

Hulu Plus check where you live, so unless you have a credit card registered to an address in the US you cant use it.

You can access standard Hulu (not plus) for free at

Watching netflix has been stated to be legal by our government, so at a guess its nothing more than a breach of terms and conditions.

Just thought I would add that this process works fine, I now have Hulu Plus running on my WD box.

I just tried ultra surf with hulu but was met with a banner message saying they had detected I was trying to access hulu through an anonymous proxy tool.

Hmmm..maybe they are not easy to get in to?

Go to and use the free trial. Ultra surf will work as I described earlier with Netflix, but its not what I would recommend (other than to see whats on the Netflix page)

I used unblock us, and all ok on hulu.
Speedtest shows me at a speed of 4.52Mbps.
The quality was great, there was no buffering
Looked great on my 22" monitor

I understand HBO Go can only be used with an associated Pay TV sub. Perhaps possible if you know a subscriber in the US happy to share their account.

This is where SkitterTv is likely to be handy. They have only recently launched (they appear under "Live TV" on my WD Live receiver) and are going to be retransmitting USA FTA channels. You will of course have to live in the geospecific area to legally subscribe.

Have a look at Not many areas have access yet, but 97206 zip code (Portland Oregon) will give you a rough idea of how its going to work.
