Edit : Looking at post 1, it seems to be right.
    Hi Sanity,

I have Bigpond Cable & can't seem to change the DNS settings as they are greyed out.

What services do you actually have available in the services menu ? Are they Australian or US ? You mentioned you have a Boxee so I am presuming you have a reasonable knowledge of how they work ?

Australian services as the ABC is available. I am doing a firmware rollback to start all over again. May have to take it to the grandkids house as they ADSL & set it up there.

I have finally nailed it. Rolled the firmware back to 1.07.18 & it made no difference. Upgraded firmware to 1.08.17, set time & country to Central Time(US & Canada), set DNS & bugger me it all works. Upgraded firmware to latest version & still working. SWMBO is impressed. Thanks to all for their assistance.

    Default I hate Sanity

I hate you Sanity you jinxed my greek proxy setting now im in bad books with parent's

But i also luv you hehe after reading this threads i got netfix working with no fuss at all.

Used the free Tunir link then signed up with same zipcode as your's.
Put in my credit card details and worked amazing.

Got a call from my bank i poo my pants thought i was in trouble but all they asked was if i authorised it hehe.

Im using my mac with a mini hdmi port to my 58 inch samsung (yeah I know lol) And work's wonders.

One question though you say it costs you 15 bucks a month with your setup why wouldn't you be paying same amount and use the unlimited Quickflix in australia just wondering just in case you didn't know they have an unlimited thing going.

PS i still hate you for jinxing me

In general, movies and TV series are released faster in the US. For example, I watched American Reunion last night on Vudu (in HD) on my WD Live receiver. This movie isnt even listed on Quickflix Australia site.

I also dont like watching TV with a laptop (even if it is connected to a TV), I would much rather have a dedciated receiver ( I have a WD Live and a Roku XS). Quickflix are limited on devices to computer, Sony Bravia equipment etc, but will probably impriove with time.

But Australia is also very limited in movie and TV rights.

I've been using the so subtly named hidemyass. The below is a link to their list of servers. For Greece, they have one server in Athens with 60 ip addresses.

Some of the VPN services I looked at charged for changing between servers, which was a no-go for me. I've been using it mainly for the US and UK, and have been very happy so far. But do try it out for what you want before paying for any lengthy periods.

All very interesting and would be good to see a end to our foxtel subsciptions...
Can I get a summary of best way to go.
I have a iMac + Apple TV, should I use that, or should I go with the Roku?

The family will miss the 1Q recording function, anyone worked out a way to record?

There isnt really any need to with Netflix as its not a channel, you can access on demand whenever you want to watch.

Have a read of PLEX media server or playlater from playon. Netflix shows are on demand so you can save space, $$$ on HDD.

You can get netflix and hulu to work on the old version of the wdtv live, provided you have playon running on another computer/server on the same network. It is then accessible under the option of media servers. Been doing this for some time with Hulu, icefilms and a whole host of other available plugins. The only hate I have with this method is that you get a a text only list of all the programs/shows instead of a gui/media version with film info, picture etc. So, Sanity, can you let us know what the menus/show info is like on the new wdtv live or the roku? I was considering ordering the roku a few days ago but need to get a better understanding of this?

Also, can you connect network shares to the roku so that you can stream your own media over to the roku?

You need a valid US address and prepaid US credit card linked to it to register Roku
    for Netflix and Hulu Plus

get an eligible prepaid us credit card from

You can't share files on Roku from PC except through playon

Been testing Netflix, Hulu, Iview, SBS online on PS3, WD Live Hub to 47" display and Laptop
All via a tethered mobile phone to home network.... all working perfectly.

Great solution for remote properties or holidays, motorhome, camping etc.... if you have 3G coverage, you have all your favourite media at hand

Watched a full length movie this morning while making calls and sending texts.... No Buffering at all (was via Hulu)
