    Default Wireless Link

    I would like to know if anyone knows of a device if it so exists?

    I would like to add some sensors to my shed, in essence a 2nd area. However I can not run cables as I do not want anything overhead and I do not want to remove paving for laying of cables.

    I know I can go wireless however I would like to know if there is a Transmitter and a receiver that can be purchased that would allow all the sensors to be hardwired instead. I am thinking 8 will cover me.

    I have a D16 in the main house and I know I can just use the wireless plug in, which I have for the radio keys, however I would prefer the devices in the shed to be hardwired.

    There is power to the shed, so another mini control panel, if this is a good name for it could be mounted.

    Short answer yes it can be done, by using a device called an Elsima. Its a transmitter / receiver device.

    Long answer... If you want your detectors in the shed hard wired, buy a small stand alone panel, if your using a D16 at the moment, get an Eco 8 panel from Ness, 8 zone, cheap, super easy to install and program. Same functionality as the D16.

    Wire up your shed as per normal, use an aux output from the Eco 8 into the transmitter of the Elsima. Wire up the reciever of the Elsima into a spare zone on the D16, you will need to put in an EOL resistor at the D16 end.

    When your shed go's into alarm it will trigger the aux output, activating the Elsima and coming up as an alarm on the D16. The only draw back of this, is the shed is effectively one zone on your D16, it wont report individual zones from the shed. However the Eco 8 keypad in the shed will tell you what zones have been activated.

    A pretty easy and simple way of doing it and not having to worry about lots of wireless detectors

    Is there a cable for a phone point in the shed, and if so, do you need to have a phone there?

    No phone line in the shed, I have seen them done the way you mentioned with an Eco 8 Panel, however from past experience it will only let you know that the shed is in alarm, not zone information.

    I was hoping something like the Elsima but with mulitple inputs and outputs,

    Wire 8 PIRs to 8 of these:

    Modify to run off a 9v power supply.

    Then bang one of these on your D16:


    Problem solved, bush style.

    I did think about that, however I would use this instead,



    I might change panel if that makes it easier.

    If you use the ness radio interface, they can receive up to 4 detectors but only have one output, you'll be in the same situation as the Elsima

    Last time I used the Radio interface, being the



    I had it working so each detector reported on its own zones, unless this has changed, however this will work



    But the cost is a little high though.

    Elsema is for garage doors etc. it is not supervised wireless and inappropriate to a security application.

    You can also use universal point transmitters which have an input on them and then connect hardwired detectors to them. However you still need to consider powering the local devices. If you're going to that trouble, I suspect doing it hardwired will work out around the same amount of effort/money.

    Why not install 2x to create a wireless bridge to the shed.

    Mount one in the shed and the other in the house, closest to the shed (line of sight). Then install wireless devices in the shed.

    Edit: Just re-read your first post. (about the hardwired)

    I was thinking of wiring a wireless transmitter at each PIR, or even back in a control box, only 4 devices in the shed, 1 PIR and 3 Reeds, each wired back to the control panel for power, and the termination for the transmitters.

    I honestly thought in the past that Ness had a device that allowed 8 channel transmitter. Might need to call them, I know not all things are in the catalog, for example in the past Ness had a Radio Dialler.

    If you're concerned about batteries you could always use the wireless reeds and PIR's but hard wire the power by means of a battery backed up power supply or plug-packs. The PIR I believe is 9v whilst the Reeds are 3v.

    You guys have used Ness Radio gear before right?

    As a former employee of one of their largest customers I can tell you from first hand experience that a 50m gap between house and shed is not going to be very reliable for that rubbish even with radio repeaters! Hell Ness radio gear struggles to work reliably over 5m let alone 50!

    Do yourself a favour, hire a ditchwitch for the day get some conduit and cable and hardwire the detectors in.
