    Default Decoder box keeps restarting.

    I have an Altech UEC DSD 4121 decoder box and it worked fine for about 3 or 4 months and then all of a sudden it just started rebooting over and over again. If I leave it unplugged for a couple of days it will often start up but the channells will be scrambled and then after a few minutes it just goes back to it's reboot loop again. It hasn't worked since about February.
    Is there a solution to fix this or is it just dead because it's a shoddily made piece of crap? Is it even worth contacting the store where I bought it since it came from Caboolture and I'm in Longreach?
    I'm tempted to take a sledge hammer to it to vent my frustration but if there is a way to get it working again then that would be great since it cost me just over $300 including postage and a HDMI cable.

    It sounds like it may have an old firmware version and not being able to download and install the update OTA.

    Download it manually from the UEC website... instructions here:

    If it's still playing up after the firmware update, it may have other issues.

    You could also check the usual things....

    1. What is your Signal level & signal quality ?
    2. Use another power supply point....
    3. Are there any wireless communication devices, or electronic equipment near the STB (maybe try in an different location)
    4. Does the Vast STB share a Dish with any other STB's
    5. Ask the Person you bought it from, (or someone else) to test it for you...?
    6. Is it still under warranty ?

    1. Don't know. It won't turn on and I'm not a satellite TV technicion.
    2. Tried that and it didn't help.
    3. Yes there are but nothing that wasn't there months ago when it actually worked. Modem, TV, PS3, Xbox 360 etc.
    4. No.
    5. I'm in Longreach in central Qld (aka middle of nowhere) and I got it from a store in Caboolture and it was posted to me so I can't exactly take it in without devoting a several day long road trip to the mission.
    6. Yes but, once again, I'm nowhere near the store where I purchased it and doing anything about it other than killing it with an axe is not really worth the effort.

    I have heard that there are problems with this model of decoder, as in they are pieces of crap which have a high failure rate.
    Sometimes it turns on for a few minutes but then displays error messages saying that the channel is scrambled, or sometimes it says that the subscription to this channel has expired. Then it goes back to it's usual reboot loop again. It did turn on long enough today to do the latest update but it didn't make any difference.

    That suggests it's a a power supply problem.

    Quite a common fault with them.

    Contact UEC & tell them your problem, they cover the warranty, so if they authorize you to send it back for repair or replace you just post it to them at;

    Altech UEC

    Address: 27 Sirius Road Lane Cove West NSW 2066 AUSTRALIA
    E-mail: sales@uec.com.au Telephone: +61 2 9425 5777 Fax: +61 2 9425 5799
    Source;

    Oh & BTW have you tried removing the card & putting it back in with words of encouragement such as "Work you F#$%ing Bastard". worked for me.
    Cheers, Tiny

    I am guessing you may have got your system from Satplus. Have you rung them? I have found them to be pretty helpful.

    That is where I got it. I haven't called them yet since I got called into work for three hours which then turned into 8 hours and now it is 6 PM so it would be pointless trying to call now. Might try on Saturday.

    Thumbs up Vast Decoder

    There is a VAST Dealer in Longreach that can help.
