    Default DAS External Sounder

    Hi Group

I'm installing one of the new modem DAS external sounders. It has an LED panel for use as the strobe. It also has a solid red LED light that can be connected to the 12v Output on the panel.

I imagine this is used to warn passers by that there is an active alarm. I'm not sure about this.

What's your opinion? to LED, or not to LED?

No LED. They can be connected to be permanently on or an armed state indicator. Most professionally installed systems don't have them.

while the LED seems like a good idea to warn there is an active alarm. it kinda screams "look at me, i have an alarm"

NO. It screams "Look at me! My owner forgot to arm up".

I can think of a bunch of uses for a convenient LED.

    1) Active during exit delay. You can use a remote keyfob to arm and receive confirmation without irritating the shit out of your neighbours via siren chirps (and also not telling the whole neighbourhood "Hey my house is now unattended"). After exit delay times out, LED goes out too so as not to allow Bad Men to recognise when you're armed or not.

    2) Active on motion detection. If the strobe is flashing AND the LED is blinking as well, you probably don't want to go inside (unless you're Chuck Norris).

    3) Always on. That way, it will have added deterrence (maybe) PLUS you'll know when the LED isn't working, because it will be off. Genius.

    4) Morse code!

    .... .- ...- . / -.-- --- ..- / .-. . .- .-.. .-.. -.-- / --. --- - / -. --- - .... .. -. --. / -... . - - . .-. / - --- / -.. --- ..--..

    ... . .-. .. --- ..- ... .-.. -.-- / -... .- -.-. -.- / - --- / .-- --- .-. -.- / -. --- .--
