Default Connecting to a PC which is connected via 3G

I'm trying to find a way to have a computer connected to two different networks at the same time. What I've found is that devices all get confused and don't know where to talk.

What I'm trying to do it.... have a laptop sitting somewhere which is connected to a network device of some sort... it could be an IP camera or some other software that talks to a network device.

Then I want to connect a 3G dongle to that laptop so that I can connect to it remotely to monitor.

I have gotten each of these senarios working independantly, ie I can easily setup the laptop to talk to the camera etc which is plugged into the network port on the laptop directly.
I've also tried with a few different software apps to connect to the computer through the internet, sop I know that bit works I just need to choose the best one.... I just wanted to be able to control the laptop directly so that I can see what the other device is doing.

Do I need to configure some kind of firewall or router of some sort... can this be done with windows or do I need another software app?

I have also done this sort of thing with an ADSL router, as you can setup port forwarding for incoming connections.

Perhaps I need a 3G router to do the same as what I'm doing with my ADSL router? Ideally I would like to be able to do it using my existing USB 3G dongle though as it need to be as compact as possible, I want to avoid having a separate box that needs power etc.

Anyway I think I've blabbed on enough, hopefully people understand what I'm trying to do.
    Thanks

    I think I understand...

Why don't you use TeamViewer, LogMeIn or the likes on the Lappy?
Connect up from wherever and away you go..

    I think I understand too .
I reckon you need to have a VPN setup which includes the camera device.

    I've tried teamviewer and logmein.......
Thats what I use to connect to the lappy..... but the problem is the lappy is trying to talk to another device on its on LAN port..... there is issues when connecting to two different networks.... ie when the lappy is connected to 3G, then it has problems with connecting to the local device plugged into the lan port......

Is this network device you are trying to see (camera or whatever) on the same subnet as your Laptop LAN interface?

It is quite easy with these cards installed.
