I found this a tad stunning....allowing these guys to break our own import laws...
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

What people need to understand is that until 2003 cars were allowed to be built using asbestos, no one is jumping up and down about that and there are heaps of pre 2003 vehicles on the road needing new exhausts, clutches and so on.....
I got a garage a shed and a house made up of 50% asbestos sheeting and my health is just fine.
as long as people are aware of the hazard , and don't start messing with the stuff , then it is as safe as or more safe than many other common and dangerous products.
I guess the thing here though is that the presence of the asbestos was not declared when it should have been.
Is it about this Law?
Is it really that to you?
Or is it more about some Laws piss you off by interfering with your chosen lifestyle?
And you are annoyed because others break Laws and get away with it , and you don't.
Well i blatantly ride my pushbike regardless of the LAW - Its my ugly scone and its my decision as to whether i feel I need the LAW to ascribe me to choose to wear a helmet.
Darwinian candidates are on the increase hence laws aimed at the lowest common demoninator. This forum appears to have a few such candidates.

I don't have any issue with this, they are non-abrasive parts so like they say, the risks are negligible. Replace them when they need servicing and don't allow them to send any more in.
What I would like to know, and I bet no one will give a shit, is where did their asbestos come from? What poor miner in China or India is contracting Mesothelioma as we speak?
If a man says something in a forest and there is no woman there to hear it, will that which has been said still be wrong?
Some people are like clouds. When they go away its a beautiful day.
They will probably replace them under service or recall, local suppliers sell modern exhaust gaskets or a $1 or 2 each wholesale, its not a $ or parts issue its most likely a service labor issue as the dealerships will charge it back to the Chinese manufacturer at $100-$150 an hour.
I can just see Great Wall sending a boat load of techs here via Christmas island.
Did any read the report on the Great Wall 4 wheel drive in Saturdays Age (Sydneys Morning Herald?) Not very flattering
There is a fine line between "Hobby" and "Madness"
I recently bought a brand new dual cab v200 4x4, and it's a fantastic vehicle.
Opinions are like....anyway, the asbestos is apparently limited to the exhaust gasket, well locked away.
It's not the Asbestos in the Great Walls that worry me. It's the fact that they in all recent independant crash tests they crumble like an aluminium can.
asbestos in a couple of gaskets , big deal. wouldnt stop me buying one. Great Walls still look a bit fugly for my liking but they are engineered well with proven reliable engines and common service parts.
Not the early ones, they all failed crash testing however i heard the newer ones were getting better but still third world to some degree in the safety department.
Wait till a few pass the 200,000Km mark and then i think we will all be in a situation to know whats going on with them, at the moment there seems to be more negative comments about them compared to positive, then again our motoring journalists are a bunch of patriotic wankers who will bag anyone under cutting the big boys and still think Holden and Ford are the best things in the world.
our motoring journos only write what they are bribed to write.
My landscaper has a fleet of 5 great walls , the early models , 2.4 engine and is very happy with them. only fault has been peeling of the paint around the front bumpers , which was fixed on the later model.
cars are way overpriced in this country anyway. if we're not getting ripped on the purchase price we're being reamed for parts.
went on a work inspection tour to Japan in 2005. saw a new Pajero Exceed over there in a yard . our guide translated the price to $36,000 . we paid $55,000 over here in 2002 for a GLS!! the Exceed was over $67,000 !!
bring on cheaper cars i reckon.
