    Default Comnav Issues

    Hi All
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't see it on any previous threads.
I am having trouble setting up my first Hills Alarm Comnav.
The Instructions say enter the IP address of your comnav into the web browser to access the Comnav Configuration Server but when I try that all I get to is my Technicolor Gateway TG 587n V3 and cannot go any further.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Many Thanks
    Glen

where did you get the IP address for the alarm from???

Is it plugged into a switch with multiple other devices??

It sounds like your gateway is blocking access. Try typing in the IP address as XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:1234 (1234 being the port of the alarm).

ok first thing first.. just because you have plugged it into port 3 on the back of the gateway doesn't mean that is the port it is going through. The port i am referring to is a firewall port.

Speaking of... do you have any firewalls turned on in the modem, gateway or computer.. if so turn them all off and retry your alarms ip address.

To locate the address of the alarm you need to log into the device that you have plugged it into and have a look at what dhcp clients are connected. I this case i would say that it is connected to your gateway.

    Hi Again
I really appreciate your help. I think I have found the port on my gateway that the comnav is connected to.
Does 00:04:a316:e7 sound like it could be correct ?
I have tried adding it to my ip address but without success
    (
    and )
but just get : Windows cannot find......check spelling

feeling a bit of a fool at the moment
    Thanks again

no.. that is called the mac address.... that is the physical address of the device...

try and give us an exact description of how it is all setup. ie for me i have the following setup..

    Fritzbox 7390 adsl2+ modem/router ----> 24 Port Switch -----> Server ----> 6 PC's ----> 2 phones -----> Tablet -----> Surveillance System.

if you can gimme your setup i should be able to guide you through how to configure it all.

    Hi Again
My setup consists of a Technicolor TG 587n V3 modem. There are 4 ports on this.
Port 1 My World Book Nas Drive
    Port 2 D Link DES 1226G 26 port Switch. ( 24@100mbs + 2@1Gb)
Port 3 Hills Alarm Comnav interface module

I have tried connecting the comnav through port 20 of the DLink switch but when this failed to work thought it would be easier to bypass the switch altogether and it and it's currently plugged into port 3 of the Technicolor gateway.
I have used most of the ports on the switch for Tivo's, ps3 wii, boxee, printer, blueray player & will be connecting ip cameras once I have sorted this issue out. I connect wirelessly to the Technicolor when I use my computer.

    Thanks again
    Glen

    Hi Crootie
Think I've managed to sort out some of my problem. I can now access my comnav from within my home wifi. I connected it via ethernet cable first to allow all of the settings to transfer, and when I diconnected the ethernet founds it works.
I will keep trying to access it remotely
Thank You for all of your help
    Glen
