    Default NSW 2F Security Licence

    Hi

I have applied for a NSW 2F licence and have been contacted by SLED asking me to get my fingerprints taken and pay the fingerprint fee.

So I have got my prints done and sent off the fee, the covering letter says it could take another six weeks while they carry out a search on my prints.

From your experience, does it actually take this long?

I'm hoping that this is an outside estimate and in reality it takes less.

I would be grateful to anyone who can give me an idea how long it took for them.

    Thanks in advance.

Unless you turn out to be a "person of interest" it will probably be half that time. BUT SLED is only a fairly new incarnation & could be more interested in their own affairs rather than yours. Welcome to the security industry where the powers that be seem to have little interest in the actual industry they control.

Assuming no flags are raised (have you been a naughty boy?) six weeks is probably a worst-case scenario. I've not seen one take less than 3-4 weeks though.

However noting that new legislation is to take effect on 1 November in NSW, and SLED are currently doing roadshows to explain what's happening, I suspect they might be a little busier than usual.

It's a one off event. Once your prints are on record you won't need to do them again.

Time taken depends on their work load.

Hope you don't get fingered for an unsolved crime

    Well thanks for the feedback.

Happy to say that the letter came today, so that was 2 weeks and 1 day.

Now I just need to find a job...

Welcome to Australia Leigh. It's a whole lot different here than in the UK.

    Best of Luck!

Before I left the UK I approached Kings (yeah I know about the ICAC thing), Chubb (I worked for them back home). Since arriving in Australia I have had interviews with 3rd Eye Security, Imperial Security, Ropek, iSecurity and ADT. I have had an offer from one of these companies but will probably not accept it due to some confusion over who should pay for the vehicle and fuel needed to do the job. I have been here for eight weeks and am keen to get working but here I am turning down the first offer! Maybe beggars can be choosers.

Anyway bit more about me here if your interested:-
