Netflix is unbelievably good. To anyone that doesn't really know much about it I would recommend checking it out. It is so worth it.

All I did was I created a US Paypal Account, (using a US address) used my aussie Debit credit card, and walla, my Australian Bank account gets Debited every month but it's all billed from my US PayPal account. I suppose I could send money from my Aus Paypal to the US PayPal and pay for it that way too?? That way you shouldn't need a credit card at all?

I hear of a lot of people having trouble topping up their Netflix and what not but doing it through a US Paypal account I have not had a single problem.

You are better off using a service like I suggested in the original post. Yes, you can use a VPN but it is in general not as good an option.

Can you elaborate on why VPN as solution is (in general) not as good of an option (as OP)?

I gather ICS needs to be implemented from a machine running a VPN solution with auto-reconnect at fail, no DNS leak protection, etc. I can grab 160-180ms pings via US West Coast surfing streaming via BolehVPN fwiw.

Do you not recommend VPN because it's a more involved setup, or?

Because in general they are much slower with higher pings resulting in constant buffering. You are likely to find free trials of both VPN's and DNS solutions like Unblock Us so give either a try.

DNS solutions like Unblock us only route specific sites through their service, all other sites use Google's Public DNS of 8.8.8.8 (unless things have changed since I last looked). The content, ie, Netflix, is delivered directly to you whereas with a VPN it is sent to the VPN and then to you.

    Uno DNS explains it here

I use unotelly with the dns and VPN for specific operations ie dns for streaming where possible, but some services like bbc on my android tablet will only work via VPN. BBC on my wdtv goes through dns. VPN is also handy to find a specific google play store. But as Admin says you will generally get better streaming via dns.

I take it, in regards to the first post when admin suggests Roku or WDTV Live, that you are referring to a US purchased WDTV Live?
Or can any WDTV Live be used? By doing a Firmware Update once the US DNS settings have been installed in the WDTV Live?
Thus just grab one from Officeworks.

There are a couple of models, do you have WDTV SMP (streaming media player), about $100 from office works? Thats all I have, you don't need a US one and you can change the dns anytime irrespective of firmware.

Well, i just dragged an old WDTV Live out, when it was first turned on (years ago) it had all the US content, Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, but after a Firmware update, it lost all those services.
So i just wondered what the story is to get them back?

Use the US DNS, so it then firmware updates from the US servers?
I know on my PS3, you just logged in under a username you created with US details, add the DNS, and it then let you chose Netflix, Hulu and Vudu from the Playstore

Is it a WD LIve or WD Live streaming?...only the live streaming ever had netflix due to the chip inside being different. If you update the live streaming, it should have netflix there.
I have the US DNS in my live streaming and it updates from the web ok but still has ABC iview present in the menu which I would think would not be there if it was US firmware

I have a small programme which will give me the IP address of any country I choose. Works great on a PC or laptop and enables me to watch UK TV - Is it possible to have this running somewhere so giving me a UK / US IP and so being able to watch Netflix on my Samsung Smart TV and saving me paying more out my pocket?

If you want to try Netflix .....all the answers are in this thread ..... (have a good read)

It will be easier for you to try one of the proven DNS solutions ...like Unblock Us, UnoTelly (UnoDns) or getflix ...

if you try something new & if you have problems .....people may not be familiar with it to offer any help (if required)

Have signed up to Getflix and I'm currently in the trial period...I have changed their DNS settings on my Samsung TV and also downloaded all the UK apps! I think I need to log into Getflix in order for it to see my account however when I enter my email and password through the browser app (Getflix website) they both clear and I have to try and log in again...without any luck! Any ideas folks?

Set up the DNS settings on your PC first ..... (follow the tutorials)

then get Netflix working on your PC ..... (follow the tutorials ...How to set up Netflix)

If you can get it all working on your PC then try to set up your Modem/Router, or TV or other device with the DNS Settings (I have not got a Samsung TV myself either)

If the DNS is setup & working correctly the Netflix apps & others from USA should appear on your TV .... then you just login on the TV or device with your Netflix login & password

Thanks again for your replies...I was hoping to avoid playing with the settings in my router but are you saying I need to do this? I have changed the IP (DNS) settings on the television, downloaded all apps fine and they all work but of course, the likes of BBC cannot view anything as I am out of region which tells me that Getflix is not yet hiding my IP address...also when I look at the status on my PC it says DNS not configured but it will say that as I have changed no settings in my router! Everything works just that I would like to progress with Getflix on my TV after having input the DNS settings on there but when I try and log into their site on my TV, the password and log in name go blank for some strange reason?? That is the problem!
