Hi hyuk,
firstly you would need a registered cabler, not a sparky unless that sparky is registered for data cabling.
You are probably looking around $100-$150
Hi everybody, sorry if I am posting in the wrong area.. kinda new here.
So just wondering, NBN Co. are coming round soon to install their little
fiber optic box thingy and power supply soon. The original Telstra line
comes through my garage. Our main room with all the gadgets and modems
and stuff is directly above the garage.
They have told me it is too expensive to get them to install their NBN stuff
upstairs as it is a "non-standard" install. However they have suggested
that I call a sparky and get them to put in network cabling up to the
main room as the NBN stuff connects to the Modem/Router via Cat5e
or Cat6 cable.
My main question is how much would it cost to put in a wall plate in my
garage and have a cable running through the wall plate in our main room?
The wall plates would actually be right above one another and it would
only be about 4 or 5 meters max.
Hope I didnt confuse anyone?
Thanks in advanced!
David

I just purchased a Cat6 cable of the correct length and 2 wall plates with rear sockets .(Jaycar)
I ran the cable under the house up the wall and plugged into the wall plate sockets.
Dont need to pay $150 for that. Easy to do yourself that way.
Actually I ran double plates and ran another to a rear sunroom for Home theatre LAN.

It really is unfair for people to try and give you a price on this David, as much as it is kinda silly to ask.
No one has any idea of the construction of your house, nor its location and other factors.
One thing is a certain though, if you have reasonable skills and spend a bit of time searching and reading on the net, you could do it yourself.
Or, get a sparky to simply give you a price once has has seen what it he needs to do.
The rest is just guess work.
