bit of a question that google and wikipedia cant answer, (amazed, so am i)
parentals have moved back out west to the farm, to save a bit of coin on mobile calls and because everyone around them has uhf's etc, they are going back to them, ive got to finish the base install but as such they are on the air as all the farm vehicles have uhf's in them,
now for the unanswered question.
gme use a ccir 400 selcall standard (i think) and icom use tp40 or tp100 type selcall standard,
will they talk to each other if setup correctly and if so how do you get them to talk.
the reason i ask this as the in vehicle and base radio are all gme's, but for a handheld im more partial to icoms, in particular the new ic41w, for 2 reasons, A its got a degree of water/dust/ingress resistance, B, lithium ion battery, as the tx6200 only comes with a ni-mh battery, i know the tx6100 comes with a li ion battery but to me they just dont feel as solid as either the 6200 or the 41w, and it doesnt have selcall
why the desire for selcall compatibility,
after a recent fatal accident close to me, where the person carried no form of comms and wasnt found until the next morning, atleast with selcall you can keep on paging the radio and using directional antennas narrow down where to look for them, yes mobiles do work everywhere on the farm, but towers are fairly sparce so triangulation is not likely to be effective,
thanks in advance
