Always double check the authenticity of any offers of courses that claim to give Recognised Certificates of Qualifications and suggestions of work on completion of the course.
I did a course at TAFE many years ago for Oxy/Electric welding and while for me it was only ever as a hobby, I had been told qualifying in the course would get me a 'Ticket of Competency' to apply for welding jobs.
As it turned out that the Trades Acts had been amended and while I could indeed get a certificate on satisfactory completion, because I was NOT employed in that area in a recognised 'Work Place', I could not be employed as a Welder under the various awards and Trade Acts.
Part of a Motor Mechanics course at that time involved welding and they at the end of a much briefer course than mine (6 weeks, 4 hour classes) were considered as Welders within their trade and were then allowed to weld and charge fees for doing so as Tradesmen.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
