Default Portable Wifi Hotspots, a question....

I am still playing around the Huawei Modem and a thought (dont laugh) crossed my mind (I really do have one) and I thought of how these Modems are advertised and I wondered what would happen if a number were operated in reasonably close proximity.

Scenario.......... You have a Wifi 'Hotspot' and at lunch time you and a few friends get together to share the modem to Game or 'Socially Interact' and others of a like mind with similar personal 'Hotspots' gather nearby

Now each 'group' uses encryption so thats not a problem but I wondered what would happen as there are only 11 channels generally available for use if that could be a problem if there that number or more in use at the one time.
The reality is getting that many at once would be a 100 to 1 against it ever happening but, I just wondered as there are instructions suggesting a change of channels to avoid conflicts or interference.

Also I am thinking along the lines if you were visiting and you take along your tablet or L/top with your Modem and where your visiting had a wifi system in place but you want to use your own separately to theirs.
I see this Huawei can be 'tethered' and the Wifi disconnected which is an option, so long as you have the suitable USB cable with you.
I have not been into the 'Menu' of the Huawei so I dont know if it allows a channel selection or how to do it as I know my Netcomm wifi router does.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

When you get a group of people on one channel, you get congestion, and a slowing of the network speed. Plus, there may be more than one AP and associated users trying to share the channel also. If you have your own system, you could use inSSIDer to find the least-used channel and use that. I don't know about the tech specs of the Huawei, but as gordon_s1942, said, the Netcomm router has the channel choice capability.

Billion and Netgear also have that capability.

My Dlink has an auto assign feature (as well as being able to specify the channel). At restart it does a survey and determines what is the quietest channel to transmit on.
