BRITISH prosecutors say they have authorised police to charge Australian entertainer Rolf Harris with nine counts of indecent assault and four counts of making indecent images of a child.

"We have concluded there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest for Mr Harris to be charged with nine counts of indecent assault and four of making indecent images of a child," London's chief crown prosecutor Alison Saunders said in a statement on Thursday.

"The alleged indecent assaults date from 1980 to 1986 and relate to two complainants aged 14 and 15 at the time of the alleged offending."
There are six charges of indecent assault relating to a girl aged between 15 and 16 from 1980 to 1981, three charges of indecent assault relating to a girl aged 14 in 1986, and four offences of making indecent images of a child between March and July 2012.

Harris, 83, will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on September 23.

"We have determined there is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and that a prosecution is in the public interest," Ms Saunders said, adding Harris had a right to a fair trial.
Harris was first questioned over allegations of sexual assault in late November 2012.
He was arrested in late March 2013 by officers from Operation Yewtree, which was established following the Jimmy Savile sex abuse scandal.

At the beginning of August he was rearrested following further allegations of sexual abuse.
A police file of evidence was then passed to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) just over a fortnight ago, on August 12.

Ms Saunders said on Thursday the CPS had carefully considered the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan police before concluding there was sufficient evidence to charge Harris.
The Australian artist and singer has lived in Berkshire, west of London, for more than 50 years.
Millions of young people grew up to the sounds of his inimitable wobble board, didgeridoo and quirky singing style, while his catchphrase "Can you tell what is it yet?" became synonymous with his sketches that only became clear with the final strokes of his marker pen.

I hate the word pedo,

I can remember when I was a kid my parents talking about him having to leave the country because he got caught in some inappropriate situation, that was as detailed as they discussed 40 years ago, rumors were flying about even back then though

The really annoying thing is, both Jimmy Saville and Rolf have pretty much gotten away with it. Even if Rolf's found guilty (and it sounds like he might) he's in his eighties, any jail time is only going to be a few years at worst.

One consolation though, when he does start shutting down, the poms are going to have to pay for his medical bills. (Hopefully his funeral and burial costs as well)

I hereby divorce Rolf Harris as an Australian citizen.

He has not been found guilty of anything, yet. The police may accuse, but until the evidence is evaluated in a court of law, then he must still be assumed to be innocent. Heck! From some of the things that have occurred with my kids over the years, I could well be accused of such things. FWIW, all of my kids are still my friends and would most likely deal with anyone making such accusations before I even knew of any investigations. Personally, I am not so sure that he is guilty he does not, to me, "seem the type", so far, none of the high profile cases, so far, have been a surprise. That's not to say I knew that they were guilty, but, it fits with my impressions of the character.

Yeh, don't pick me for jury duty. I fully understand that after two public investigations, and formal charges of 13 offenses, there's very little chance the man is innocent.

Lets wait and see what the evidence is before the Court of Public Opinion runs away with the usual rumor and Innuendo.
It makes you wonder why the complainants have waited over 30 years before making their claims of assault.
I was going to say 'coming forward' but you lot would take that the wrong way..................

I know first hand of where a sexual assault (Father/Daughter) took place and a fellow who was just a friend of the family was 'named' by the Father who did the assault and for the next 18 months was prohibited from even seeing the persons involved until the Father admitted he only named the fellow out of spite.
Not a pleasant situation to be in and even now several years since it all happened, it still affects him.

That's true, Rick, As I said, that comment was based upon my impressions. In other cases when someone is accused, I've thought, "I'm not surprised" but, had you asked me before hand, I'd not say, "He's a (whatever the crime is)." In this case, I've not had the "I'm not surprised" feeling. The only interview that I've seen with a accuser strikes me as a person who is looking for some "credibility" as she was only a "witness" to some events. AFAIA none of his "victims" has come forward yet. Time will tell. FWIW, he may have had some nasty piccies on his 'puter at home, I've seen all sorts when fixing machines for others, nine times out of ten they were from sites advertising their wares. Him being a celebrity, and possibly, less than computer savvy, I'm sure he gets targeted with all sorts of unsavoury stuff.
