    Default ATMEL ISP programmer.

Anyone recommend a good ATMEL ISP programmer. Moving away from PIC chips and my PIC programmer will be no good. Looking for one that is well supported with devices and even updated on a regular basis for new devices.

Yeah, Ive used a few of the ATMEL Mega series 8583 and 128. If you are ok with working with a soldering iron, may I suggest you have a look at:

I have tried the SI and STK200/300 and I highly recommend using the STK. Its just so much faster. The website also has a program called Ponyprog2000 which is a free download.

As for the compiler, I use AVR studio. I think it is a free download. I have the original disk that I got with a development kit a few years ago. Its not a full blown IDE but its pretty good.... And its free.
