Default What on earth is this?

I've seen 4 of these strange looking things around my house....
2 on the wall in the toilet
1 on the ceiling in the bathroom
And 1 on the move outside on the paving.

At first I just thought it was some lint off my work socks...
Then thought it might be an egg sack full of spiders...

But then I saw the last one kind of moving along on my paving outside.
It seems to attach to the wall, ceiling or ground by one end only.

Dam things freak me out..... Never mind that pube on the wall, i meant the weird thing next to it

It's got to be the larvae of some kind of moth or possibly another bug.
they come in all shapes & sizes.
The cocoon can be mobile & can be made of whatever, depending on the creature.
Looks like it's feeding on the paint on your wall.
Keep an eye on it till it goes thru metamorphosis, then you will know what it is.
    Cheers, Tiny

Yes, i searched Google images and its close to a Bagworm Moth (but i dont think we have them here)
Was also close to some caterpillars in the pupa stage.

I have seen it before years ago.
And yes, it is mobile.... Maybe something that likes this time of year?
    Who knows....

    Yep, It's a moth.
A cotton moth or carpet moth or as oceanboy said, a bagworm moth.

Time to get the bug spray and naphthalene, because these little fvckers are eating something in your house.

Ok... So it this point i've not seen any Moths?
Just the odd few of these freaky looking things hanging off the paint.

I disposed of the other 4..... But where do they come from?
Only 1 Moth per sack? Or is it multiple?

You could spray it with Hairspray which will probably suffocate the larvae and then detach it and dispose of it.

As to where do little bugs come from is dealt with in basic Biology, First Boy bug and Girl bug do the rumpy bumpy and produce a larvea that has a bit of a munch for a period before deciding to form a chrysalis in which to metamorphose into a copy of either Mummy and Daddy and then goes looking for another to start the cycle all over again.

Dont be too long winded in removing it as the gestation period may only be a month or so now the temperatures are warming up for Summer.

Actually it would have been hanging upside down if you watch them crawly critter shows and would have emerged fairly soon head first from the bottom after it ate away the chrysalis shell and once the wings were dry, it would have flown off to start the Bug cycle over again.
The shell is basically waterproof and light so if it did fall from where the larvae attached into water, the moth still might have a chance of survival.

After some reading, apparently it likes feeding on spider webs and can often eat fine cotton (not the horse) and alike.
Kind of makes sense, as the one in the bathroom i found up on the exhaust fan cover near that fine lint that gathers on the grill.

Interesting that i found 2 in the toilet, both on the lower wall sections....
Oh well, glad i now know what these mystery things are.

Although its demise was a few logs and flush

It probably followed the air current drawn by the fan knowing what ever it favoured to eat was also attracted by that too and once it found a food source and other debris to make the chrysalis, anchored itself there.
