All I have is my router connected to a TP-LINK 54M TL-WA501G extended range wireless access point.

I am regional, so no interference or the like, so don't know if that makes any difference or not?

It is simply connected up in the lounge room

    Good luck
I find WiFi amazing, especially using my MacBook Pro (most sensitive laptop i have ever used for wireless range)
I can pick up and log into a Pub's Wifi that is 3 to 4Km's away (LoS)
Yet i have one job where i cant get from one room to the next due to the thick solid core concrete walls.

Thats another thing i have noticed, as WiFi is a 2-Way street, sometimes range can be found using a different laptop, than trying to up the Access Point.
    Glad you sorted it out.

A new router is one option, but it would need to be a new modem/router and that would be more than the cost of a cheap add on, with no guarantee it will reach out the back of their places anyway.
Yes you right peteramjet. it would need to be a new modem/router.

This thread was useful, I never had any luck with range extenders in the past but I may have to give this another try.
