    Default Firefox Tasbar Icon Problem

I want to make a Gmail shortcut icon and add it to my taskbar on Win 7

I have made the shortcut on the desktop, and downloaded a gmail picture to show the shortcut is for Gmail. The shortcut runs fine.

I now want to transfer that icon to my taskbar, just like you have them there for Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.

When I drag it there, it says "Pin to Mozilla Firefox", but won't go there, it just returns to the desktop.

I have been in to the taskbar and unclicked "Lock the taskbar", but that makes no difference.

Is it only a shortcut to a program you can put there, and not a shortcut to a page?

    Thanks

Damn. You're right: mine does the same thing. This worked for me:

    * Using Explorer, browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\
    * Drag firefox.exe to the desktop and create a shortcut to firefox.exe on the desktop
    * Right-click and get Properties on the shortcut to Firefox.exe
    * In "target" add the URL after firefox.exe. e.g.
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" http : // www. austec. info
(without the spaces added to stop this site mangling the URL)
    * Copy your new shortcut to the QuickLaunch bar

Thanks....followed your lead and can get the shortcut to pin to the taskbar, but...

The icon itself is just the same looking as a firefox icon looks like.

I then went to Properties, change icon, and browsed to one of these images I downloaded to my desktop, had to go out of icons file, and into all files. I selected the image to change the icon, but the image now won't save, saying select an icon from the list or specify a different file.

How do I get the sample gmail icons into the ( where are they) icons folder?

    Thanks again....

Solved it....had to change the image file to .png
This then allowed the icon image to be saved.

Hope this helps someone else ?

I gave up...there are threads everywhere on what to try, but they all failed for me.

I then stumbled upon this little program, installed it, and it runs fine on the taskbar, with icon, showing notifications as well.

I hope this may help someone else?

[T]here is only one simple rule that you have to follow in order to make almost any item "pinnable" to the taskbar: create a shortcut, save it somewhere safe so you don't delete it by mistake, create a shortcut to that shortcut and add the explorer word before its path. Then you have a shortcut which you can pin to the taskbar.
