You might use it to get into a harddisk corrupted Windows PC instead of loading any Linux Live CD.

msDOS would only read FAT32 and CD drives, how does it cope with NTFS and more recent Hardware?

My intention was only to provide a link, NOT to explain things: You have already ruled in another thread that my knowledge of MS DOS is more than insufficient... AFAIK, it exists freeware "NTFS Reader for DOS".


Allow me to say that your knowledge about MS DOS also isn't best:

MS DOS creates FAT16 and accesses/reads FAT16 drives/volumes. FAT32 file system was introduced with Windows 95b. NTFS file system was introduces with Windows NT and is valid until today. Windows XP supports FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS.

Resume: MS DOS per se can access/read neither FAT32 nor NTFS file system.

err... I don't want to be too pedantic but MS-DOS 7.1 is part of WIN95b and should be FAT32 compatible.

i still use it now, but only when im really pissed & just hit any key
reminds me, i still never found the any key
i got all these computers here set to boot from cd, but they just keep looping as i dont have a any key on my keyboard?
what am i doing wrong?

You could drop a spanner on the keyboard and see what happens.
From some time spent in Germany I found that the word key also means spanner.
However this might only work with German versions of Windows.


As we live in Australia where things are often 'fixed' with a hammer you could try dropping one on the keyboard ...and of course if it doesn't work use a bigger one.

I used the ISO to install MS DOS 7.1 in a VM, LOL

Forgot to say no product key or anything else is needed.

I'm not sure what I did to rattle your chain, JB, I only asked whether it could read NTFS natively, i.e. without the need for third party add ons like NTFS for DOS. Your claim that it can address windows partitions is true. If it is only Fat32, it limits use to files of < 4Gb even though it could address up to a max of 16TB devices. I appreciate the fact that you search out these programs and post links to them. I have no idea how much testing, or otherwise, you do on these files before posting, hence my question. I'll get back in my box for now, and leave you to it.
