if you boot to a dvd or usb, wipe all partitions, i think you can install to it
I think I stuffed up my mbr on my Toshiba A660 or something like that. I was having issues with windows 7 disk repair not working and it running very slow and sometimes not booting up at all So after fiddling with HBDv15 and getting it up and running again I backed everything up so I could use the Recovery partition but after holding the '0' key and pushing power it does not work. It does quickly mention something failed then rolls on through to windows as normal.
I have tried to run the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator but it comes up with a msg No HDD Recovery Area!
The Toshiba Recovery Media Creator can not be launched.
So if the partition looks fine in disk manager and I know at one stage I was messing with the MBR, is there a way to fix it. I assume it needs Toshiba's own mbr to work and if this is right how can I restore this problem?
My laptop model number
A660 PSAW3A-07U00R
Any advice would be appreciated
I am running windows732bit.

if I wipe all partitions then I wont have recovery partition tho..
i never been fussed on recover (never used 1 actually)
you have a huge 500gig partion, & the recovery dont work
you have 32 bit windows, if its got more than 3gb ram in it, you need x64 bit anyway
get your hand on a win 7 x64 bit dvd, (im sure we can help)
boot to it, use advanced mode to wipe all partions, make a new 1 200gig, leave the 300 as spare (you do this in windows later as a data partion to backup\store on)
thats it
just fixed my mates that had factory win 8 on it, ran like crap (bloatware)
only catch was it had a new gpt partition (new non bios, uefi crap) had to make a win 7 usb with gpt partition to install on, why? you ask
because the silly bastards finally realized to split the hard drive @ factory, so 300gigs was a data partition, but you cant reinstall with a normal mbr disk
doesnt seem your case, as yours is win 32 bit anyway
so, you need a win 7 ultimate, x86 or x64 pre activated dvd

ah ok Thanks Phil. Sounds like a good way to get things running again. I will be contemplating this as a last option or when I have had enough either way.. I havent had much to do with recovery partitions or mbr or bootsec myself. Makes this task a difficult task at hand. Im going to keep scratching my head for a few days and see what pops up.
Thanks phillquad
Already tried a system repair with BOOTREC?
Can you still boot into Windoze or not? If you can, then you should be able to create a recovery set of disks if you have not ever done it. From there, you can then boot from them and perform the recovery. With some manufacturers you can also reset the "archive bit" (not really, but that is the closest analogy that I could find) so that you can re-create the disks, not sure if that is the case with Toshiba as I have always made my recovery disks from day one. They work fine, have recovered my Lappy several times over the years (Toshiba Satellite L500 W764bit)
I can boot into Windows. but recovery progam wont let me create reovery disc. Main reason Im sure this is, because I rerote the MBR with a program called Herins boot disc. So I am downloading a version from a torrent site atm but it is C660 but has stopped. I got as far as downloaading 1st recovery disc. I was hoping to rewrite the MBR with this but unsure. I'll also look into resetting the ARCHIVE BIT but this sounds like a long road lol
