If I understand any form of 'Cable' correctly, a customer connected to anywhere on that cable irrespective of its length, should have an equal speed/capacity as its 'amped' as specific intervals unlike your copper landline due to resistance, ADSL can only work over a short distance from the exchange.

That speed of Yobbo's (hate the man) is even faster than a Politician once elected forgetting their promises !!!
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

That's the way it's supposed to work but unfortunately many other variables come into play
I'm on cable but at the very end of the node so before I updated my package to Telstra's new high speed cable I used to get very average on variable speeds.
Now, on the new package it's locked solid.

By the way I don't wish to teach anyone to suck eggs but are we all aware of the difference between

Mb / s (Megabits per second)

    and

    MB /s (MegaBytes per second)

Needless to say as everything is a multiple of 8 these two speeds are essentially the same - god knows why Ookla records them differently.

In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

So what is the point of the egg sucking bit as I assumed that everyone used the same reading/format from speedtest.net.?

I'm sorry I'm not quite sure I understand the question.
You are correct - we are all reading a 'similar' formats but not the same.
Ookla defines the speed in two different formats.
One being Bits per second and one being Bytes per second.
My point was simply that the two postings were formatted differently yet were essentially the same speed.
Whilst this is a technical forum and I assume the majority of posters may well understand the difference between a megabit and a megabyte, I'm sure there are a perhaps still a few that maybe don't and on the surface may see 113.8 as being much faster than 14.1

Maybe I assumed a little to much.
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".

I must admit, I was one of those who did not notice the Mb vs. MB....I knew there was a difference but did not pick up that Ookla was using two different units to measure. speed

yes, very interesting; I've been aware for some time & discussed it in another thread about different speed test sites using MB/s & Mb/s. Which does confuse some people.

Didn't know & haven't experienced OOKLA using both. Checked my history of tests & they're all in Mb/s??

It may be that they now have many different host servers, that they didn't have before, that have set a different speed measurement criteria.
Notice the 2 tests in Seymour Butts post, one server is Brisbane & the other Melbourne.
You can elect to go with the chosen server or select from a server anywhere in the world for the test.

edit: BTW I''m very jealous of some of the speeds I'm seeing. Phew.

Well now, that's not strictly true is it??, indeed the exact opposite is the reality.
The majority of posts are in the format MB/s whereas many of the linked or HTLM posts are in the Mb/s

Perhaps it's because I used my reading and Yobbos post as the comparison?? that you feel the need to question what seems to have been readily accepted by other forum users.
I did this because we both enjoy the Ultimate cable connection and whilst it is a fast connection believe me we both pay for it as well.
Or maybe you have just attempted to read between the lines and feel I have used the post to play "My dicks bigger than your dick" - believe me, this is not the case.
I reiterate, I was simply attempting to point out the differences between MB and Mb.
In all honesty If I could run my consultancy at slower speeds I would jump at it but my customers dictate that they want answers yesterday.
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".

    Thanks Tiny,
I'm unsure of Yobbos exact Qld location but as I pointed out in an earlier post, I've always been on cable but right at the end of a node so I've always experienced very flaky speed results.
It wasn't until I updated to the ultimate cable that the speed increased 10 fold but also bought about new issues - like Telstra locking down the cable box to specific DNS's meaning I lost my 2 ROKU boxes (well only for a couple of weeks, I formed a work around and now have the Roku's back)
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".

Agreed and it just shows the digital divide we have in Australia and now the NBN "labor type" has been knocked on the head I doubt whether it shall change in my lifetime.

At least we have something in common Tiny the biggest ping and the slowest speed.

    Past or present tense.?

Funny you asked allover but when the guy was handing dicks out he said HORSE and I thought he said here is YOURS.

Not really I was standing behind the door and missed out badly.

You think you have problems, My wife has been saying for years that If I was 1/2 an inch shorter we could have been lesbians.

I'm a bit baffled, not that it is unusual....but I'm sure I started this thread in the TEST section of the forum.

How did it end up as a "normal" post?

Have many people tried these speedtests with the American DNS both in, then out, to see if there is any difference?
    Or shouldn't it matter?
