    Default Spoken Street Name for IGO 8.3.4 not working. Needs help

    Hi,

    I have searched several forum re GPS spoken street name but I still can't find a solution to my problem. I have updated my SYS.TXT with syntax suggested in the forum; ie.;
    tts_buffer=131072
    always_say_road_names=1
    announce_exit_directions=1
    announce_street_name=1
    priority="HIGH"
    skip_exit_numbers=0
    tts_logics=3

    I also got (what I believe) the right *.dll's, such as;
    LoqEnglish6.9
    LOQMSX
    LoqTTS6
    LoqTTS6_util

    But still my GPS would just say "turn left" or "turn right" without announcing the street name.
    GPS is running with Q1 2013 Australian map.
    Can anyone please help me? Is there anything I'm missing to make it work?

    If the spoken directions work the most obvious fix would be to actuall use a computer voice instead of a recorded voice

    Hi NRT,

    Thanks for the basic IGO8 files.

    I extracted them to a newly formatted microSD card and add few more files, i.e., maps, poi, language, etc.
    Chucked it in to my GPS unit. But when I click the navigation icon, it says "Please set Navigation Path".
    I'll search this issue, but if you got any quick idea to get around this, please let me know.

    Cheers.

    not home at the moment, you will need to point your gps to the Igo.exe file (not sure of the exact file name). Or make sure the file structure is the same as what you already had. (you may need to rename the exe file)

    Hi NRT,

    thanks for your quick response. I was able to got around the issue of the navigation path. The GPS unit I bought have an icon to set it.
    I got several errors after that, but google help me with it.
    Was able to run the igo.exe adding necessary files in the SDcard every re-start.
    Got to the point where I've already added the TTS, voice, audio, and dll's. But unfortunately, no spoken street names (back to square one).
    I notice that when the GPS says "take the next left..." there was a bit of a pause after saying the word 'left' -- i.e., it seems it is looking for the street name to say.
    I'm pretty sure my AU map is not that old not to have street name. Or is it?

    Any idea what should I do next?

    On my device the folder is IGO & the executable is iGO8.exe.
    Or as NRT says make the file structure the same as it was previously, that's probably the easiest way to get it to start.

    Hi Downunder35m,

    Not sure what you mean by your reply. Or was it just tongue-in-cheek reply?

    Downunder was serious. What voice are you trying to use? It has to be tts voice.

    Exactly!
    I might be funny at times, but usually with some seroius thinking behind it.
    You can try what you want but without a computer voice you simply won't get spoken street names.

    I've tried several english (US & UK) voices of both male and female (i.e., Kate, Steve, etc.) but nothing seems to work.
    Would there be a particular voice I should use to make it work?

    Thanks Jma. My file & folder structures are correct as far as I know.

    Hi Downunder35m,

    Could you please share to me a working computer voice? I've read in some of the GPS forums that it could be a case of corrupted files. I even tried re-formatting my SDCard and re-downloading the TTS and voices; but the result was still frustratingly the same.

    I assume you use CE and not Android as Android uses the Nuance voices.
    I also assume that you problem is either with the sys.txt or the way you saved the voice files.
    If you downoaded several versions of Igo, check for DLL files and license files and copy all additional ones into your installation - some release are not complete.
    Are the computer voices shown in the voice selection? If so are they greyed out?
    Do you have working standard voices?
    For the Loquendo voices the correct folder structure is (US voice for the example):
    Igo
    -TTS_LOQ -In here are the VDE and LDE files that define the lexicons and voices
    --EnglishUS -In here are the LEX files for the voice description and pronounciation
    ---Dave -In here are the actual voice files, BIN, LEX and SDE
    So you have the Loquendo folder, in the the language folder according to the country and within this folder the actual folder for the voice.
    I hope I made it clear enough to understand.

    I just updated my gps to Q2 Map for NZ and lost the street name spoken part. I think it was a Whereis map. Try one of the other maps ie navteq because I changed back to my original and got the function back. It was only the map part I changed in the content file.

    @Downunder35m:
    1. Yes it is CE6.0.
    2. I believe i got the correct DLLs, including:
    LoqEnglish6.9
    LoqTTS6
    LoqTTS6_util
    LoqMsx

    3. English voices (under iGO8 > content > voice folder) I could select includes, but not limited to:
    Philippa (AU) Elizabeth (UK) Thomas (UK) Dave (US)
    Thomas (AU) Kate (UK) Amy (US) Jason (US)

    4. Under iGO8 > tts_loq folder, I have the VDEs and LDEs files, but I'm unsure which I should have. Should I have the VDEs of the voices I've listed in #3 above? Btw, under tts_loq folder, I also have EnglishUS subfolder, which contains individual folders for Dave and Kate and contains the SDE, BIN, and Dictionary files. But no LEX file in it.

    Am I right to rule out the SYS.TXT, TTS_LOQ, and VOICES from the equation?
    In several forums and postings, Susan's voice is always mentioned. But I don't have that voice in any my file.
    Oh and yes, you've describe it clearly for me to understand. Thanks for that.

    The LEX files are not that important, they only correct spelling errors.
    You should find matching VDE and LDE files for the installed computer voices, normal voices won't appear there.
    Can't rule out the sys.txt as I don't know it's contents, I suspect there should be more in it than what you initially posted

    The sys.txt file contains:
    [folders]
    app="%SDCARD%/iGO8"

    [interface]
    skin="ui_igo8"
    vga=0
    mapfontscale=100
    show_exit=1

    [rawdisplay]
    class="landscape"
    highres=0
    screen_x=800
    screen_y=480

    [tts]
    tts_buffer=131072
    tts_logics=3
    priority="HIGH"
    always_say_roadnames=1
    announce_street_name=1
    announce_exit_directions=1
    expected_engine_delay=1400
    skip_exit_numbers=2

    [debug]
    skip_eula=1
    enable_roadshadow=1

    [map]
    auto_nightmode=1

    [msnd]
    msnd.start=0

    Could you share files related to Susan's voice? I want to use file other than mine and isolate via deductive testing.
