Default Safe operating voltage of TV

    Hi There
I have a Dunlight 4200kva generator. Theyare are brushless self regulating generator. It runs power tools without any problems.
I want to use this to run a caravan as well.
Sometimes the voltage can go up as high as 270volts.
What is the maximum safe voltage for a tv????
    Thanks Matt

    Cool Could be expensive.

    G'Gay,
I can't say that I've tried, but to my mind you would be stretching the friendship. Common sense says NO.
Just one thought, is that a no load voltage that drops with any sort of a load?
Try it with about a 60 Watt lamp.
If now below 250 V, should not be a problem.
Kindest Regards, " The Druid ".

If they are self regulating , just what are they regulating? It obviously isn't the voltage

I wouldn't run any 230/240 appliance on more than 250 V. Things will start to fry up or you could have a chernobyl on your hands.

Hoe's idea is a good one, only some UPS won't run off a generator unless it is one of the newer "inverter" types.
The outputs of older generators tend to be a bit noisy and the UPS sees this as a poor mains input, therefore won't switch back to it.

I don't know if they are available where you are, but a lot of asian immigrants to New Zealand bring these "auto voltage controllers" with them. Totally unnecessary here, but they bring them anyway [then dump them out on the hard rubbish collections!]
I think where they come from, they either have fluctuating mains supply or they have a choice of 110 or 220.
Anyway, this box self-regulates and keeps the output constant regardless of the input voltage.

I would be looking at the circuit on the generator, you might find some caps that don't look to happy

Chernobyl thats one way of describing it LOL
