I have 2 Quaker Parrots who enjoy building. This is their giant stick nest. I am currently out of sticks, so its at a stand still.

Cool, get them a lego set.

How long did it take?

They would probably put it together. I will have to see if I cant find plastic sticks on ebay or something, thought they are fussy as hell with what I give them. I bought some timber dowl from Bunnings and cut it up and they refused to touch it. Both are extremely paranoid birds who think everything is a plot against them.
They could build that in 1-2 days depending on how motivated they are. There are fights galore when building, one gets in the entrance hole and organises things and the other ends up building over him and locking him in. There have been several instances where they have built themselves in and cant get out and I have to pull it down
Quakers are one of the few parrots that build a nest out of sticks, most nest in hollow trees and logs. Quakers have been known to build stick nests the size of a car with multiple entrances, they get right in to it

At the moment they use plastic seed sticks with a peg on them so its easier to keep them together.

Don't know about you birds, by mine loves everything nature.
I go and cut a some tree bits off for him.
Usually something that still has some flowers, seeds or nuts on it.
He loves it to pieces within 30 minutes.
Just get some clippers and a bucket and get some fresh for them.
Cut them into uitable lenghts and chec what they do to it.

What, heaven forbid, they are building without a OHS and Union rep on site?

How about a caterer's pack of satay sticks with the sharp ends removed?
If you have a belt-sander or something similar, you could sand multiple ends off, by holding a bunch of sticks together and 'de-sharp' all the ends at once.
$2 store swizzle-sticks? Straws? Paddle-pop sticks?
From a catering supply place; a large packet of disposable chopsticks like the chinese takeaway shops use?

No, definately weren't treated.
I have had these birds for a few years, I took them from my sister in law as they were traumatized by her mentally challenged children. They are extremely paranoid birds...... Anything new in the cage and they will scream at it for hours. Needless to say, my wife who works nightshift hates them. They both talk, one more than the other. The female quacks like a duck when I tell her to which pisses the male off big time. You can teach her almost any word. She says thank you when you give her anything.
Out of the cage seperately they are different birds I can sit down with them separately and pat them for 30 minutes without a problem. But back in the cage, they will rip your finger off if you are silly enough to put it in.
I have 3 Australian Princess Parrots and 2 of them have a missing toe from the Quakers. The third almost lost one on 2 different occasions.
The problem with buying them anything is you have to test them with things first. As an example, most of those seed sticks are green. I bought a different brand with yellow sticks and they wouldn't use them.... for 2 years
Today I toppled the stick nest. They get too wound up about it and have been screaming ever since they built it, with screaming and fights between the 2 of them every day since it was built.
I did cop a nice bite on the thumb wrecking it though, fark they have sharp beaks.

I have quakers and yes they are odd parrots that like to build stick nest unlike most other birds, they are quite a charcter personality. I have 2 blues my self and both talk they are very good talkers and intelligent parrots.
they normally sell for around $250 from a breeder ringed although males and females talk, its best to have high pitched voice as they will adopt to your voice when learning to talk.
I was loved the yellow and white which is worth 10k little out of my price range
any pics admin blues or greens?
also normally have to be 2 years age before they breed also mine love to be sprayed with hose as bird bath they also love the attention mine whistle at me when they want attention

Sounds like kids.. "if you don't stop fighting, I'm taking your toys away!"
Every now and then, one of my older pet rats bites me "properly". It usually results in their front teeth meeting in the middle of some part of my hand. Human fingernail and finger-tip cartilage, are no obstacle at all. A couple of times I've tricked them, and inserted a bone in my finger, between their upper and lower incisors while they bit me. This stopped their teeth meeting in the middle. Just.
I now have much faster reflexes.

The male is green and the female is blue. Cant get near them at the moment, since I pulled the stick nest down if I go near them they attack...each other. They are nuts at the best of times, definately worst when I pull their nest down.
Pretty close They just go too loony if I let them have it for too long. Its good when they are building, it shuts them up for a couple of days. But then when its done the fights start.Sounds like kids.. "if you don't stop fighting, I'm taking your toys away!"
They are trying to rebuild it at the moment but arent getting far as they obviously have different ideas as to how it should be done.

I pulled the stick nest down a while ago but they have rebuilt again. They chuck anything in, some leaves and sticks, even some rope they chewed off a toy.

Note the side entrance where they get in and out. You can see chief grumpy arse in there.
I'm impressed at how they have used the pegs correctly or are you helping them you old softy??

I put the pegs on the sticks for them as otherwise it would be impossible to get it to stay together.
I don't know what their current master plan is but they are now soaking pegs in their water bowl
