    Default Windows 8 IE probs

Friend has a windoze 8 computer. His problem is that Internet Explorer works fine from the metro page but when he switches to desktop mode IE suddenly decides it does not want to work. No home page, while it allows me to type in an address, nothing. It's as though IE has gone offline. I've tried resetting the defaults in Internet options, even deleted the desktop icon and re-created it from the metro interface and still nothing.

I'm not familiar enough with windoze 8 yet to know where to look. Suggestions, please and, no, another browser is not an option, yet.

It might still be worth installing another browser as a means of finding where the issue actually is. I would suggest installing Chrome or Firefox and see whether they work. If they do, its definately an IE problem. If they dont work, its a connection issue.

Maybe ignore that, I just re read it works on one page.

I use Windows 8, but only use the standard desktop with Chrome.

You haven't mentioned which version of Internet Explorer you refer to. It might be worth trying a different version.

    They are available at .

A Google search reveals that some users report problems with IE after upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1. Which version are we talking about here?

IE 10 - that's default version in Win8, latest release is 10.0.9200.16521. dated 26 February 2013 - isn't a Metro app. Thus the Start screen always disappears when IE gets started.

My suggestion: Remove IE icon on desktop, if present.

I have w8 upgraded to 8.1 wife uses IE & I use FF or Chrome.
    All working well.

Good point, we use IE pinned to task bar from the desktop, no desktop Icon.

If still no joy, try IE repair tool.
this is for all supported versions.
    Cheers, Tiny
