Hi all, just wondering if anyone here can recommend a wireless router, that can be set up to block a specific internal ip or mac address, this is to limit one user in the household. The have a laptop and iphone.
So basically limited access to certain websites at predetermined times.
Also no access late at night.
Thanks.

Almost all routers will offer some variant of the block capability you require however although I'm not an ADSL user myself I've installed many for clients and I'm a big fan of the range.
One that I feel may suit you is the range
Now, having already stated that I am a Draytek fan, they are, needless to say, somewhat expensive
Here is an that also does what you need.
Ooooops - just re read your post - I'm still a fan of the Draytek but they don't schedule
The ASUS does.
Cheers

In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

Thanks for the reply. I'm just downloading the manual for the ASUS to have a look at it.
I was just having a look at Tomato website link .... it has parental control build it, but then I have to find the correct modem and install the tomato firmware.

Sorry Mick,
Don't know the website and haven't used it but it does look like it may be an option.

Installing DD-WRT () on a wireless router or access point is another option to consider. ( I am aware of but haven't used Tomato software).
DD-WRT is available for a large range of routers and access points. See
For some time now, I have been using a Linksys WRT54G wireless router equipped with dd-wrt software as part of my LAN in order to provide internet access in some areas. Prior to that I used a WAP54G wireless access point, but this obviously provided wireless access only.
The upgrade to DD-WRT software is extremely simple. Full directions are readily available for a wide variety of devices. I have used it successfully on (my preferred) WRT54G routers and WAP54G access points with no problems whatsoever).
DD-WRT provides the function you require (see below).

I tried the new ASUS router/wireless unit & have no end of problems with my Epson network printer & ASUS would not help in working out the problem, all ASUS would say "it's your printer" so I got myself a Netgear unit and never looked back

Thanks tristen, I'll check that site.
I guess another alternative would be to try some parental control software, configured on each PC and apple device.

Every router has this kind of feature you might check the manual on how to do this, or if you may post the brand and model of your router here.

Your avatar suggests you're into Linux. Why not repurpose an old machine as a firewall?

majority of routers that I have used have this feature, I have been using Huawei e5186 and the signal strength is very impressive. My modem is upstairs, while the USB wifi adapter (connected to my PC) is downstairs, and the signal strength is still relatively strong.
I had a Netgear Wireless N router. You can block by schedule, service and even website or you ALL services to block internet access.
Usually on the router set up you can
Once you click LAN Setup you'll see the following:
Address Reservation - Use to reserve IP address assignments by computer so you can block sites/services by specific and reserved IP address.
Schedule - to set when it will be applied
Block Services - check Per Schedule.. Now services will be blocked by schedule you set.
You can also access the menu to restrict all services
Billion, here, I have two, both have the facilities you require, I have not needed to use it, though, so am unsure of effectiveness of same.
