looks like xp is missing a driver for your hard drive...
there is an option to supply one when installing xp.
I am trying to install Windows XP 64 bit OS on to my Lenovo R500 laptop. I have Intel core 2 P8600 processor (64 bit cpu) and 4 gb of ram. I have a 500 gb harddrive and am currently running Windows 7 Ultimate.
The installation starts as usual loading all of the drivers and files and when the bottom of the screen message says, "starting windows" I get a blue screen error message that says, "check hard drive, run chkdsk /f , if this is first time reboot, check for virii" etc.
The error is 0x0000007B!
What is that and how do I get around it?
thanks

Their comment was "Setting SATA to Compatibility Mode in the BIOS circumvented the Blue Screen of Death."

So Win XP Pro 64 bit is/was not sata compliant?
Hmm I wonder if that will be a degradation in performance?
thanks mandc and hoe
I doubt you'll see any difference in performance by changing from SATA AHCI to compatibility mode. Link below.
Just slipstream the SATA drivers into the Windows XP CD.
Why return to XP unless you have some legacy apps to run. I have both systems running on various machines here and each is as good as the other. The only issue with 7 is that nothing is where it was in XP.
thanks dave and micks, Isemmens this is why . . .
"Printers mostly, the three that I have are older but work fine. I keep them clean and have a small stockpile of ink cartridges. All three, two HP and a Dell (Lexmark?), did not write/compile updated Windows 7 drivers!"
More than anything I am curious as to performance? Does Windows 7 address/accept more ram than Win XP pro?
thanks for replies guys

I have G 570 lenove but i can't install window 7 64 bit reason is that their processor and ram don't support. If operating system will install some file will crypt, you can't get actual benefits from their feature. While i hope if you use their recommended operating system it will be good for your system using of all programmed that you need.

Going the virtual machine route!
What a pain in the A$$ if you go the "PROPER" MS route!
Authenticate this, Genuine that, Email required here, Testicles as collateral . . .
Three things actually needed . . . .
1. Install WindowsXPMode_en-us FIRST
2. Install WindowsVirtualPC SECOND
3. Install WindowsXPModeUpdate THIRD
