    Default Android problems, TV Box

Have an Android TV box (Tronsmart) which i have to update as i was the first in the line to order. The instructions were translated from Chinese and appear to have lost some thing in the translation and lifted from an Android phone instruction

    SD Card Update
1.1 Download the firm ware, you will get 3 files; factory update param.ami; recovery img and one zip
1.2 Copy files to SD card
1.3 Make sure your device is powered off
1.4 Insert SD card with extracted files in root directory
1.5 Insert a toothpick to reset button- you will feel a click (the reset button is located in the AV hole)
1.6 Power on the vega s89 box by inserting power cable whilst holding the toothpick in the reset hole at the same time
1.7 It will boot to recovery and start installing ROM
It will restart when finished ( you can now connect with HDMI cable, so you can see the update process on your tv monitor

    The questions are
There is no mention of the usb cable being connected during this process
Although says to connect power there is no mention of turning the unit on
Does it have to be in USB debug mode
How do you place files on a SD card in the ROOT DIRECTORY

I am surprised i have not bricked it with the amount of times i have tried to flash it

    Unplug power.
Put sd card in slot, make sure files are in root of sd card.
Hold reset button in while plugging power in.
    Release reset button.

Reset button is in audio socket

G'day to all mates; hope i'm in the right section on this awesome Austech forum
Have several devices always flashed without a problem. Decided to dedicate my weekend
to flashing my bricked MX4N but its taking up my whole Saturday & Sunday...
    Wanted to flash MX4N with " update_mx4n_5.1_20160827(v88).img"
Am on windows XP all drivers installed - right colour (Green) boxes etc...
in ROM flash tool I can erase the NAND working fine
Then trying to flash the ROM after 100% I get download firmware failed error
then I try Rockchip batch tool to get an official firmware back on and I get a similar download firmware failed error.
If I reboot the device I can still erase the NAND or try to flash it but error stays the same....
Is there a way to fix this?

    Thanks & CHEERS

How bricked is your box? Can you at least boot to recovery?

Also, do you get failed message straight after downloading or after checking?

Did you try AndroidTool release 2.35? You can get recovery image with it and try to recover prior to flashing your firmware.
