Usenet with sabnzbd works turning off and I shall check turning on.
Just wondering what is the best way of having a computer that has Win 7 64 bit turn on by itself (leave it on standby, hibernate or whatever) at a certain time in the morning ( 2am start for timed torrent, downloading) and shutting off 9 hours later. Can this be done? If so can I have some input on this.
Thanks

In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.
I use this tool at work for our digital signs.
We signed up with usenet but found out because to download what I want and my bandwidth restriction (100gb a month and it would cost me another $50 to go to 200 m/b) it would take me 2 years to get what I want (just say a nice round table) I have an option to get something similar but smaller but can only d/load it in non peak times as its only seeded at those times.
I cannot see one post (in this thread) where it's been suggested or said that you didn't attempt to help - Kudos to you, you managed to string together 12 words, all without a link between them (but look I agree with you on this one - Make the OP's do some work them selves, after all Google is your friend - well definitely mine, and in this instance I felt a quick Google search and an accompanying link better described the 'Wake on LAN' function than a simple activate your WOL) however you now appear to be suggesting that my suggestion and the resultant question I posed didn't in any way answer the OP's question, and I find myself asking what part of 'How to Automatically Turn on a Computer at a Specified Time' do you not understand.
Now I agree that what I posted may well not have helped the OP but surely that's his/her decision and requires no input from you.

I thought it must have been my aftershave seymour, we must wear the same brand

You ridiculed my suggestion of usenet as an alternative using sabnzbd as a client to download movies etc instead of torrents.
Then had a quip about me stringing together 12 words and I agree that the length of my posts pales into insignificance compared to your short stories.
In the mean time practice your intellectual skills on some one else.

I am not quite sure what you are seeing on your screen Marty but I fail to see anywhere that seymour butts has ridiculed anything.
The only thing he posted was this :
With the word "this" hyperlinked to a site showing how you can use your computer's bios to auto turn it on and off.Does help??
How that is ridiculing you, I have absolutely no idea whatsoever.

, you managed to string together 12 words,
what about leaving your pc on but schedule your torrent client to only download between certain hours...

Ok, that will do please.
Yeah, have some respect for the OP.
Cheers, Tiny

Already tried Windows Task Scheduler?
Quick guide here:
OP, simply forget the WOL feature Windows 7 indeed knows of, it doesn't solve in any way your issue described in post #1
WOL means "wake computer up remotely", i.e. wake a PC over the network from the stand by mode. Thus in your home network would have to be another PC which acts as Home Server, which is programmed to broadcast your Win7 PC at a specific time a specific byte sequence that the network card of your Win7 PC recognizes and then in turn awakes the Win7 PC from sleep.
