    Default usenet going slow

For the first time today i'm using my astranet usenet account but what I have noticed is my download speed averages around 140 K/bit per sec. Max is about 180 K bits/ per second. Now I can download a similar file from uTorrent at an average of 320 K/bits per second, max at around 540 K bits / second.
My usenet account is an unlimited speed account as fast as my internet provider can deliver and as far as I know my internet provider should not be slowing my usenet account's downloads speed.
Any clues why its so slow? have I missed something in my Astranet usenet account settings.

You could be right as some of the download is coming up with files in red saying missing or corrupt files.

I've noticed a few speed problems with Astraweb the last month or so, you could try changing over to the European server - eu.news.astraweb.com
If you are already using the European server, then switch over to the US server - us.news.astraweb.com

    You must be using SSL.

    ssl.astraweb.com
    ssl-eu.astraweb.com
    ssl-us.astraweb.com

Same deal, change to a different server and see if your speed issues go away.

I have no idea what software you are running.

With Newsbin, I've always changed servers, then closed the program and restarted it. I've never tried pausing the download and changing servers, give it a try.

Problem fixed. In my Newsleacher program I had the connections set as 1. As soon as I selected 6 or more (settled for 8) my download speed increased just over 500 K Bits/sec. Yep it seems it likes a lot more bots. I could play with it a lot more and select more bots but what do you think.
Just a matter for confusion when I test for internet speed via OOkla it comes up as my download speed is 4.5 M bits per sec so how does that compare to my Newsleacher download with 8 bots at say 500 K bits / sec

I have mine set to 8 for Astraweb (max connections on my account is 20), I found 2 maxes out my 3.2Mbps connection, so 4 should take care of yours, no harm with setting it higher though.

yes mines on 8, thats enough

    4.5 = 450-500k, sounds about right too

i get 6-700, if it falls under 500, i start looking for a problem
often its servers, so it pays to have a backup block account on hand, but dont forget to swap back to the main one

With Newsbin you can set priority on the servers, I have Astraweb (unlimited account) set at 1, Blocknews, Hitnews and Newsdemon (block accounts) set at 2. It automatically downloads from Astraweb, and will only download form the other servers if the data isn't on the Astraweb server. Saves swapping servers all the time.
