It is five years since the benchmark experts for the last time the popular browsers against each other have let participate in electricity demand. At that time the Chrome 2 won, followed closely by Internet Explorer 8.

Now in 2014 US-testlabor AnandTech ran a new benchmark. They tested

Internet Explorer 11 in the desktop mode v11. 0.9600.17207
Internet Explorer 11 in the modern fashion
Firefox 31.0
Safari 5.1.7
Chrome 36.0.1985.125
and the beta version of Chrome 37.0.2062.68 (64-bit)

Test winner is Chrome 36: it took 452 minutes (7.5 hours), to the Laptop battery still had 7% capacity. In second place, Internet Explorer 11 in the modern landed fashion (419 minutes), close behind the Internet Explorer 11 in desktop mode (403 minutes).

A surprise: The beta version of Chrome 37 was the most power-intensive, after 355 minutes the battery at 7% had arrived. Not better it looked in Firefox 31, it lasted only two minutes longer.

The results at a glance:

Chrome 36-452 minutes
