    Default IE opening problem

It's driving me crazy. About a week ago my IE started opening with about a 3cm gap at the bottom of the screen. I have tried stretching the corner which usually worked and clicking the maximise button which works but the next tab or screen does exactly the same thing. I remember a setting to instructs IE to open maximised but can't find it, help please.

    Default

    Q&D

Right click on the desktop and create a short cut to "Program Files/Internet Explorer/iexplore.exe"
Right click on the short cut and then select Properties.
Click on the tab "Shortcut" and then change the value in the Run command to "Maximized".
    Click Apply.
Now Internet Explorer will open in the maximized state when you click on any short cut to iexplore.exe.

    or

    1. Open Windows Explorer.
    2. Maximize and close it with Shift pressed.
    3. Windows Explorer should open maximized.

In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.
