    Default Navgo SY885 and tomtom

    G'day all....just bought myself a navgo from deal extreme (I know....I'm a tight arse) and installed a not so legitimate version of TomTom V6 and it seems to work ok, although my map is outdated (no eastlink etc). I'm having trouble integrating it into the 8 menu hack as seen here;

I can get the hack working but the shortcut to the GPS software isn't working, in fact it is stalling the unit. Does anyone have any experience with these and are there any pointers?

    Thanks

CoopsOz can you help me out with answers to these ...

I have a couple of questions:
    * What version of winCE did it come with?
    * What version of tomtom was installed.
    * max size sd card it will support?

    Thanks in advance..

I'll be in the same boat as you in the next week - I've got one comming in the mail

It came with WinCE 5.0, but I've heard that it is a bit random.....some are apparently being delivered with 4.2. No gps software was installed as I bought the cheaper option without the SD card. I then bought a no name 8GB card from eBay and it works fine. I installed TomTom v6 on it, if you need a link let me know, it's not the most accurate but it's a start. One point, don't format your card in windows (something to do with FAT32), format it in a camera or similar.

If I can help further.....let me know.

So did mine "It came with WinCE 5.0" - very happy with the little thing, took a while to first pick up satellites, but now it's reasonably quick. Very happy with the total package so far ... preloaded with tomtom and usa/canada map, just dropped in the australian map and it picked up no problems - looks like a very hackable unit, activsynced no problems ...

Examine the shell.xml file you've loaded and verify that the app its trying to launch is installed in the right location. Did you verify that all was working with your apps before you hacked at it ?

The approach I took to get apps working when I hacked my menu was initially to just edit the shell.ini file in the root of the SD card to point to the app I wanted to launch when I pressed the 'factory GPS/car icon'.

From there, once all my apps were working, I knew what command was needed and I knew that each app was working. So just changed the appropriate xml files and dat files for the piccys to get it to dispay and behave as I wanted.

Having said that, my menu isn't final yet! Work in progress that's gotten stalled while I waste time with other things

2 useful sites I found were:

Thanks Jim....I will investigate further one day, I ended up just restoring the registry to factory and ran the gps stuff from the shell.ini on the SD card. One day I'll get back to it but right now I'm playing with one of highway's mini itx machine for a grey wolf server. This isn't working either

    Re-initialising an old thread!

I tried to use my Navgo on the weekend but my maps didn't have Eastlink, as a result I've tried to upgrade to TT7 with absolutely no success. I have followed about 700 tutorials with no luck, always getting no maps found. Is there any iteration of TT and recent maps that will work? I have successfully created the new *.dct file and dropped it in my map folder but alas....nothing.

Anyone else got tt7 working on these cheapy units?

I have tried it by putting my "Australia-70" maps just on the sdmmc root and also by creating a My Documents folder on the SDMMC and dropping it in there. I can't remember if I got the maps from one of your links Downunder or if I got them elsewhere. This is the meta data for the maps,
    Code:
    ; Australia_835_2419
    61 49 C8 F5 A2 46 15 44 F4 FE CD 04 D3 7E 39 1D Australia-70.meta
    Is that right?

All is good now, I downloaded your maps Downunder and it worked straight away. Thanks for all the work you have put into this GPS forum.
