Have you guys with Google Hardware updated?
    Anything good to report?

I'm still back on whatever the Samsung S3 came out with, very happy, i didn't like the Nexus 5, in fact i hated it.
So i am very reluctant to change... if it ain't broke, don't fix it

I cant update, I am getting a signature error when it tries to install.

I will have to try and remember what I have installed and done on this tablet first

Yeah I got something like that first up, but I had rooted mine and messed around with some images earlier. Sideloaded 4.4.4 back in using Nexus root toolkit, was going to sideload 5 , but tried OTA again and it worked. I don't really know what I am doing most of the time with an android. It's good that google provide all the images for their devices, so you can go back if you want to.

    Default Nexus 7 OTA

I've seen the upgrade image of Android Lollipop for my 2013 Nexus 7 on several places, but didn't download it - I've been waiting for the "totally official" Over-The-Air upgrade. 'cause if I remember correctly, the OTA version doesn't force you to erase everything on your tablet and start from scratch, it's more like a "Windows Upgrade" whereas the download-and-reflash version is more like a "Windows re-install". Am I mistaken? Could I download and flash the already available version without losing my settings and downloaded apps?

I think you are mostly right. I think it is the rooting of the phone that means you lose your settings etc. If already rooted you may be OK, but as I said I am no expert. There are issues with the Nexus 7 and Lollipop, but it seems to be limited to the 2012 version not being powerful enough.

My missus just did the update to 5.0.1 from 4.XX and it stuffed her contacts.
Now the phone no longer assigns names to numbers.

Anyone else experience problems with the Android update, it was to a bog standard Google Nexus 5

I googled the issue and found 10 other problems about 5.0.1, but the missing contact info wasnt one of them

    Some 5.0.1 user comments

No idea why she bothered to update.... actually, no idea why Google bothered to update, it worked better before the update.
Welcome to Apple Eco system Android users

EDIT: Looks like it has to do with Account Syncing and where she saved all her phone numbers... (i did tell her 14 months ago)
They never listen when you tell them what to do as they set up a phone..... oh well
