the only thing i dont get with image recovery, is if you make a clone when everything is sweet, great
but if you make a incremented backup daily for not only windows, programs, emails? bookmarks, docs ect
if windows is on a self destruct mission ( i always think it is )
what are you restoring? sure it takes 10 minutes, & all your stuff still works, there,
does it format your partition before restore? are you not just restoring the same crappy windows but just to a crappier date before it died?

Well Phill it may not be the best option in every situation, it is however an option that if successful restores your PC to a time not long ago (if you bothered to make an image recently) with all programs working.

The key point is don't make an image if the system is displaying any problems.
That's why I do a virus scan & malware scan before making an image while my system is all good.
    Cheers, Tiny

Default Yet another method to create a Windows 8.1 repair disk/usb

If you need a disk to troubleshoot Windows 8.1, then download the official Windows 8.1 ( requires a retail key for Windows 8.1 ) which allows you to create a Windows DVD or bootable memory key - very few laptops today come with a DVD drive.

Once downloaded, having started the SetupBox executable and having entered the Windows 8.1 product-key (this key works: 334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT) , you will get the following option, either install from desktop, create media or install later.

Chose create media. Then the following options will appear, you choose from either USB or DVD, USB is the better option.

    Windows creates your choosen media.

Your media will then be ready to use, an icon on the desktop will also be available.

    Probably the most simple method.

Both Windows 7 and Windows 8 no longer are sold by Microsoft, but support is still given. Windows 8.1 is the version which Microsoft currently want to be used, until Windows 10 is deployed.

but doesnt that say it all? like you i already have win 10 on a separate partition to " play with"
basically its just win 8 with a few extra apps & a start button as you said somewhere
so they will bring out win 10, it will get hacked like the rest, & the story goes on

Default some tech support Windows 8 1 black screen cant do safe mode

Im using a 1920x1200; dont know if they still make them or not. Most have gone to the more traditional 1920x1080 but I dont remember ever having trouble with support and Ive used it on several systems and hardware configurations and including both XP 64bit and 32 and now Windows7.
