    Default Is it possible

If you have a Win 7 32 bit o/s installed on a 64 bit capable system can the o/s be upgraded to 64 bit without a total re install.

"64 bit capable system" is meaningless. Please clarify.

If CPU is 64-bit then all hardware devices need 64-bit drivers to be functional with a 64-bit version of Windows. Although 64-bit Windows 7 comes with many appropriate drivers, there can be problems especially with older hardware. This is also true for new PCs when individual peripheral device to be connected - a not to be underestimated problem, because the hardware is more than the gray box on the desk and the monitor: This includes, for example, the scanner or printer, mobile phone to be connected or a digital camera, etc.pp

Just printed the Windows Experience Score page and noticed under system "64 bit capable - Yes" (AMD Athlon 64X2 dual core). Has always had 32 bit system on it but just wondering if it could be upgraded and how hard it would be.

No. You will have to do a full re-install.

Changing from 32-bit to 64-bit can only be done by a Clean Install – as such it’s not classified as an upgrade.
You would need to back up all your data to external storage, and then begin the install.

OK, it must be a clean install, given that I am willing to reinstall everything after backing up data, what are the pros and cons?

step back, how much ram has this thing? unless its 4gb or more, you wont gain much
i put 32 bit win 7 on a pc last week by mistake that had 8gb ram in it, 2.5 showed up lol, it still worked (but i fixed it)
but again, whats the specs of the pc? maybe check the makers site to unsure there is 64 bit drivers 1st (ding!)
otherwise backup docs, pic, email? favorites? porn?
if its a bit enough drive, i suggest splitting it up a bit, then next time, you wont need to backup, just reinstall windoz & programs

I've been using 64bit W7 for years with a minimum of 2GB ram and have not experienced any major issues. (Now minimum RAM is 4Gb). The pros and cons have all been addressed, but the critical thing is: BACK UP and START FROM SCRATCH!!!!

    MrRadio,

I think you're too late: Windows 7, no matter which version, since a month is no longer available on the market.

The copies actually offered on Ebay and other dubious stores mostly are China-made, not genuine Microsoft. So be warned.

So, if MrRadio has no qualms about using counterfeit and pirated software, you of course can send him a copy of the cracked Windows 7 64-bit you have.

Not to forget: a pre-activated (cracked) Windows OS always is an OEM version to be by default run on particular PCs manufactured by this OEM. It's not the Windows OS distributed by Microsoft.
