The good lady wants a Nutri-Bullet. I can sort of see why: she's had bariatric surgery, and being able to drink a 'meal' a day would make life easier on the digestive tract.
Anyhow, I've done a bit of research and after cutting through all the hype, a large percentage of owners are unhappy with the medium term reliability: leaking seals, oil leaking into the food, motor burning out prematurely, blades dulling quickly.
So the question is: what product can liquefy foods into a thick drink (not just a juice extractor), is easy to clean up, fit-for-purpose and is reliable?

A simple and traditional blender!
This "Bullet" thing is such a wank, I've already had to buy 2 units for Christmas Gifts, because the girls wanted them, people fall for marketing so easy.
For one, who wants to drink from a plastic cup, we are not toddlers!
One of the most reliable kitchen appliances would have to be the humble blender. I use it for Smoothies as well as blending down soups to return to the pot.
It will crush ice, not that i bother doing that. Its made from glass, its solid, it doesn't leak, and clean up is super easy.

I'm with oceanboy, a decent blender will do what you want.
But a blender isn't a super food
Nutrition extractor.
Couldn't agree more. The wife bought a Magic Bullet Deluxe recently. Its a piece of shit. The seals leaked from the getgo. I fiddled with it a bit, but it just doesn't seal reliably, causing the slop to leak past the motor. She hasn't taken it back yet either, and I refuse to for her.
I pulled out the old Sunbeam blender and told her to use that. Rugged and totally reliable. A mate has a thing called a Ninja. Looks like a small blender. He swears by it.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.
I bought a Kambrook one - think it's called Buzz or similar - $45 - wife loves it.
I bought a nutri ninja, the 1000 watt motor one. I researched and the nutri bullet is crap plus the way they market it is full of bullshit and hype. The ninja sells for $249 but I got it for $219 from Harvey Norman. The ninja is easy to use and easy to clean. Breaks down berry and other seeds into nothing.
You can learn alot using Google, and the search button.....
Remember all dieticians will tell you its the WHOLE FRUIT and not the juice thats nutricious !!!
If I have read correctly, ONE whole orange around the size of a tennis ball contains enough Vitamin C for your daily needs and the body will not absorb more than what is needed at the time and the rest is just pee'd out!!
I have gone through 2 of the original version (Magic Bullet) when they came out years ago and I couldnt agree more with every ones comment that they are a waste of money.
I would suggest a simple blender, throw every thing in, set on CORSE so you get LUMPS and juice and dont just swallow the mix, chew it up which is part of eating anyway.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Agree Gordon, the nutri bullet is rubbish. You only have to read the reviews.

AGGGGH, and with Xmas hammering at the door, what were we thinking in questioning that 'Request' and giving all sorts of unwanted and superfluousness comments when as Oceanboy says, 'The Lady Wants'...................
Just remember that when the damn thing doesnt do whats wanted, DONT be a smart arse and say 'I told you so' or you may find S.W.M.B.O may not take kindly to that and put it where the sun doesnt shine much to your discomfort.

Our Blender that came as part of our Kenwood Chef 30 years ago still works well, why should we change?
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.
Been happy with mine for years.
Also used them at the Queen Vic Market every weekends for years....
Still like new.

A bamix and an old glass beer jug. Or if you don't want to spend $200 on a bamix a $20 chinese equivalent from woolies.
Thanks guy & girls. As you've identified, there's a few issues at play here: the good lady 'wants' and so no other argument, logical or not, will be entered into; for me it's a case of not wanting to spend $300+ on a kitchen appliance that'll become a cupboard queen and hoping a suitable alternative is available. A blender seems eminently suitable to me, but there's no prestige in owning a common blender, it doesn't make you feel good about owning one. Which is what the marketing hype of the Nutri-bullet does to some.
I'll have a look at the Nutri-ninja, perhaps it'll have that appeal, without the issues. I suspect that'll be difficult since the company that sells Nutri-bullet has such a pervasive presence, lots of 'shill' review sites, facebook 'community' of people who, without exception, seem to love it, etc. I feel as if the Nutri-bullet is $50 product and $250 pays for the marketing hype to make you feel good about owning one. But try telling that to those who 'just want it'. Subtle diversion is the only tool left in the box
we went through all this yrs and yrs ago and in the process killed many a blender etc ,
in the end i said fk this and bought a hamilton beach commercial blender ( trade price $800 )
and it has been the best investment ever .
The unit is used every day by wife and kid for their smoothys - juices etc and in summer
gets a hell of a work out making slushies and ice drinks .
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it
if you want the best... blendtec
When I explained to the guy what avatar I wanted, that wasn't what I meant!
