Default $300 Tablet. help me choose

hey people. just a little advice on which one to buy.
dont really want to go too far over $300 for one of these as its only for stuffing around the house, reading magazines, comics. the usual useless crap i do on my phone, but bigger!
i have been considering between these three.
i was going to get the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 until i noticed the Lenovo and Asus so now i need to ask this question as i dont know stuff all about Tablet specs and hardware.
    here are the 3

I'd suggest going into the store and using them yourself, that might give a bit away.
At that price range, i'd probably go the Samsung.
(Thats only based on the missus has had one for over a year and it still seems good, battery life, screen, speed, etc)
    Id also pick the ASUS

It outrageous that some new Tablets are $2200+

one thing i should have mentioned, i want a 10" screen, and a black one would be nicer but that option is limited a guess.

I recently picked up an ex lease iPad3 from Deals Direct for $380.
Excellent condition, not a mark on it.

Looks like a great budget tablet option. I'd buy that.
To speed it up, maybe you could root it and remove all the HP rubbish.
Perhaps it even has a customs ROMS?

Either way, for browsing the net, movies, google maps, youtube, what more do you need.
Wonder how Kodi/XBMC runs on it?

    Is it this?

I'd be checking the display specs, the HP lies...

    This.

I still have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 1 10.1 that runs perfectly....all I have done is upgraded it from old original Android 3 to 4. I am trying to think how long I have had it....2011 at a guess ?
Its now my wifes , battery is still great everything works fine.

I can tell you, my missus has clogged her Samsung Galaxy Tab3 10.1" with so much shit!!!!
Apps, widgets, typical women, clicked on everything.
And after 12 months of that treatment, when i pick it up, it still works fine.... i just have to wade through all her shopping apps to find what i'm looking for.

It cost her $269 at Dick Smiths 12 months ago, actually, more like 18 months ago.

I loaded XBMC on it, works fine.

Far out, these new Tabs look nice... Out of your price range, but for $540, i'd probably bite the bullet.
When you consider it is something you will use EVERYDAY and is more and more becoming your source for entertainment, and extra $200 shouldn't be hard to find.
The screen res and cpu are nuts!

I know its easy to get into the trap of buying yourself the cheapest with best specs.... But sometimes there is no substituting just buying what you know you'd love to use

Considering you are more worried about Specs in the above 3 than price, why don't you just buy something nice, that shits on everything else.
    OR

Water proof, Full HD, 14 hours movie time, blah blah....

Yeah both out of your price range, but at $300, you are always going to be making a compromise somewhere.
1 negative i will say about my partners Samsung Galaxy Tab3, is it weight!
If you are using it in bed, its just heavy, falls over, smashes into you head and hurts!

The new SG 10.5 S is lighter than a Ipad Air.

Hey mate, look a bit wider. I looooove Sony (using various products for the past five years), so even if it is a bit out of the price, check .

Although this is out of date, its still relevant to compare what was the 'Best' then to now, how after this time the Tablets have stood up to daily wear and tear.
I still have the Bauhn which was our first and bought basicaly for price as I didnt have a clue about Tablets (and still dont) and its only problem is that it turns itself off and wont restart until the power adapter is plugged in and turned on and away it goes again.
The Samsung Galaxy 3 10.1 bought a few months later is going strong and not a hiccup experienced.
Its prime use is for my wife to play games, particularly Poker machine types which is a damn sight cheaper than playing the real ones.
Neither of the 2 tablets take a SIM card which back then added a fair bit to the price and even today, I am not sure I would buy one with that facility unless it was no more than $20 dearer than the one without.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
