Default If Microsoft's Windows OS is really shit

If Microsoft's Windows OS is really shit, as some fellow members here steadily make me / us to believe so (directly or indirectly), then where it comes from that it can be found on >90% of all home-computers (November, 2014) ?

Because most computer owners only buy a computer to use for basic letter writing and playing games etc. And that's what the computer has on it when they buy it.

Yep...windows wins by default as most new computers have it on it.

I think the windows share will also increase on smartphones. Certainly in Ausralia there has been very aggressive pricing lately on nokia/wp. As an aside I've had a Nokia for a week after 3 years of iphone and so far love it.

I'm surprised at the percentage still running XP, not that there's anything wrong with that. I still have a couple of XP machines here in regular use. It says a lot for XP that it outstrips a few of its successors even though the OS is over 10 years old and no longer "supported". I'd also have expected Linux, and derivatives, to have enough of a presence to get more than a few percentage points in "other". (Which, I assume, also includes older Windoze/DOS variants, too)

A lot of flack directed at windows is for win 8.

Look at those figures. Virtually all computers sold in the last few years have had this on them yet win 8 (about to be superseded) is only 18.6% while win 7 is 56.4%.

Was win8 a good OS?. Not in my and a lot of others opinion. The 6 computers I have bought with win 8 on them for myself and others are now all running win 7.

Knowing Microsoft's history of making only every second OS decent ('98,XP,Win 7), I am looking forward to Win 10.

Don't mind Windows 8, as long as classic shell is installed.

Interesting to see that WinXP is the second most commonly used OS.

I spent 15 years of my life pulling my hair out and being close to a heart attack until I fathomed that Windows is shit because it never did what I wanted it to do properly.
I probably belong to the 0.000001% of PC users that do not use it(much) to write letters, play games or watch videos but even then I ran into unacceptable issues, that I don't have with the Unix likes which includes OSX.
I admit that I am the problem because I an never satisfied doing what Microsoft dictates me to do.

    From this informative link :

"…most desktop and laptop computers use Microsoft Windows, while most supercomputers use Linux."
