surely you are smart enough to work out that jwoegeblahs first language is german and not english and that makes for unusual grammar/translations?

I upgraded last night and using it today, am a bit alarmed at how much lack of privacy there is.

I would recommend the first thing anyone does do is check all your privacy settings, unless you are the type of person that enjoys a public social media presence.

I dont know whether i will keep it, my laptop's fan now runs continuously. Thats was from an upgrade, I dont know whether I can be bothered doing a full new install at this stage. I see they give you only one month to revert....will have to keep an eye on the time.

no problems here on asus laptop, upgraded from dodgy w7 pro.
installed from downloaded iso, english uk and english autralian with us keyboard available.......

only niggle was had to manually install network printer, everything else worked fine straight up.....

and i would go into settings/privacy and turn everything off, unless you are a social network addict....

and windows update has an advanced setting relating to sharing downloaded updates with other pcs, id change that to local network only....

    some good info here......

A full clean install doesn't take as long - around 20~30 minutes.

And +1 for the privacy thing - I don't know why Microsoft would need to know a lot of those things.

    @OX,

    I can't reply to a locked thread.

Anyhow, you can download and add as many languages as you want, as I used to with Oracle, Speak and Access as well as other progs.

None of these downloads alter the fundamental OS language.

This is why I am speaking from experience and have suffered because I did not install native tongue OS before compiling and also developing translation apps.

Maybe MS have fixed this and everything is now perfect, somehow I doubt it

    Your mileage may vary.

The privacy thing is staggering......the settings list is twice as big as it used to be. And some of these apps that have been automatically installed by default cant be removed. I removed most, but I have an Xbox one that cant be removed which to me is strange.

Hoe, yep, I reckon you are right.

I had a bizarre incident this morning. First use of the system, was reading news.com.au and read this article

5 minutes later, my mobile got an alert saying Spotify had added Foo Fighters - Learning to Fly..........the spotify account isnt mine, its a hacked account , but my phone is connected to my wireless network.

Very very rare co-incidence that the account owner added it ??? Notifications are turned off for Spotify in the app.

    admin,
run this in an elevated powershell (run powershell as administrator)

    Code:
    Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like "*xbox*"} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
it'll get rid of it, but wont delete the icon in the start menu.

probably have to wait for the 'windows 10' toolkits to appear.......

    Hi OX,

All you are doing is proving my point.

What you are seeing on the machine is the result of user intervention.

The ISO you took the OS from is still UK/USA and nothing you do AFAIK is going to change the fact that some bits of the ISO stuff up when you want to play serious language computing.

But Hey, I could be wrong, after 40 plus years in IT and my "Oldtimers disease" plus various trial and error adventures in coding ........... only time will tell if I am right ??????

Off Topic?? FYI The privacy issues with 10 are already being addressed by some very smart fellows.

Can you remember back to when MS said windows explorer had to be installed if you needed a browser and it was part of the OS.

MS is doing it all over.

    Luv and Kisses

Your probably not the only one. I went back through the other thread to see if I could work out what the discussion is about and am still not much wiser on what the issue is.

Despite Ma's claim that a Google search would reveal the issues, there doesnt appear to be any. The only one single instance of anything related is this :

"Microsoft is also only making the Cortana voice assistant to a limited number of countries at launch, not including Australia. The US, Canada, UK, China, France, Spain, italy and Germany are first in line"

There is no mention whatsoever of any Australian Windows 10 iso. When Cortana for the Australian market is released, it will simply be an auto update to existing Windows Installations. You cannot pick and choose what updates you want with Windows 10, you will get it regardless.

I cant remember ever seeing an Australian version of Windows since windows was originally released.

What I'm not happy with is that Windows 10 doesn't provide its default icons also in Modern UI (AKA Metro) style, as introduced with Windows 8.

So I now have to make my own ones for Explorer, Recycle Bin, etc. pp. Very sad about ...

My machine was loaded via the auto update and Cortana was included. I've now dismissed it, no great loss, and one thing, I think, that you might be glad never to have had.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Good choice. This method takes ~45 minutes less than the upgrade via the MediaCreationTool's UPGRADE method Al Bundy recommended here.
