Maybe a port is blocked by Windows Firewall. Blocking a port prevents any application from either sending or receiving data through it. Therefore, be careful not to block ports some of your applications need to access as it would prevent them from connecting to the Internet or to other devices. You can find which ports a specific program needs to access by performing a search on Google or Bing.

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3097617)

This current update is failing to install for 2 days now, hope this doesn't end up like

Many more having same issue, Windows should not be this hard to update itself, why should I have to waste my time to help it??

Thanks for your confirmations, the update has succeeded now, not sure what caused it to fail for 2 days.

Word of warning to those who have more than one PC. I just upgraded my media server to W10 and then went to perform a clean install from a DVD I had created when I upgraded my first machine. This DVD has worked fine on my Office machine, my Lappy and Wife's machine so I expected no issues with my media server EXCEPT....I performed the in-place upgrade and windoze activated, just like the other machines. I then re-booted from the DVD to perform a clean install, again, just like I did with the other machines. So far, so good! All sweet, so I thought, except it would NOT activate! Nothing I tried seemed to convince this that it was a genuine install. Anyway, after a day of stuffing around it appears that the ISO that I have is only suitable for W10 Home. All of my other machines were W7home, but my server was W7 Ultimate which requires a separate W10 Pro disk!!! In the past, Windoze has determined which version you install by the key, Not this time. So now I need to download and burn two copies of Windoze to keep my machines running as they should! I hope! The new version is still downloading, so if I come back and say this doesn't work, you know I got it wrong....again!
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Yes, it has been well publicised that the Windows 10 free upgrade is like-for-like as you have just discovered.

Home to Home, Pro to Pro, etc.

Windows 7 Ultimate by default upgrades to Windows 10 Pro. A Windows 10 Ultimate edition is (until now) not offered yet. And probably never will be.

I was aware that the upgrade was like for like. My Windoze 7 disk gives me the option which version I need install, W10 needs a specific disk. And now it's asking for a Driver with no indication which one it's looking for. Aaaaaarrrrgh!!!!!

Re-install and then again upgrade to Windows 10 Pro using the DVD-disk or USB-stick you created with Microsoft's Media Creation Tool. Note: Before it will be burned to DVD / USB, the Windows 10 edition you selected is copied onto PC, so you from there can run the Windows 10 installer (Setup.exe) without the need to burn a DVD / USB - simply skip this step when asked.
Have done so 5 times: always worked!

That, Joe is exactly what I was trying to avoid! I don't want any remnants of the old OS on the machine. It certainly could have saved me a lot of time.

How to blow away the brazillion crappy apps that Windows 10 comes preloaded with.

    Open powershell and run Get-AppXPackage -User %username% | Remove-AppxPackage
Open powershell elevated and run Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Remove-AppxPackage

This will remove default Windows built in image viewers, mail clients etc so make sure you really want to do it!

A word to the wise. If you have Windows 7 or 8 and want to keep it that way, watch out. The latest changes to Microsoft's incessant Windows 10 nagware will now assume that you want to go ahead and install Windows 10, if you simply close the dialogue box. That's right. You no longer need to click yes. Just saying "feck off" will result in Windows 10 installing.

    So take care.

Heard this today...I ran Never 10.......seems to have worked....
