    The complete text was:

Users of XP and Vista are not entitled to "upgrade" for free of charge during the first year of Windows 10 release, which is expected in the summer of 2015. They have to pay from the beginning a today not known price. Workaround: Upgrade Windows XP to Windows Vista, then upgrade to Windows 7.

What is wrong with this? Please tell me.

Seriously, would a machine developed for XP, Hissta, have the "grunt" (loose term here) to handle the new OS, let alone appropriate drivers. (Yes!! For the pedants, It may well work but not nearly as well as a newer machine.)

If the old computer has 1GB of RAM (2GB RAM if it's planned to run 64-bit version) , a modern dual-core processor with 1GHz, and a graphics card that supports DirectX 9, then it's worth to try it. At least I think so. And best, e-Waste so can be avoided.
Useful for testing might be "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor" by Microsoft. The free tool checks the suitability of your computer and shows you which device drivers need to be installed or replaced.

Don't have an old computer with XP / Vista installed, thus I couldn't run such a test myself. Pity.

Maybe it's your grasp on the English language, sometimes I can't work out what you're trying to say.

Why do people still expect Win XP to be upgraded? Consider the following...

    - Apple OS: 4-5 year life cycle (ie OS 10.9 no longer supports the 2009 version OS 10.6 and hardware).
    - Apple iOS: 4-5 year life cycle (ie iOS 8 no longer supports the 2010 version iOS 4 and hardware).
    - Android: 2-3 year life cycle (ie the latest Android OS 'Lollipod' is unlikely to support the 2012 version 'Jelly Bean' and hardware without rooting).

YET, people seem to be utterly disappointed when they cannot upgrade Windows XP, as OS that is now near on 14 years old and was supported fully for 13 years. Get with the times people!

An interesting side note concerning mobile devices: neither Google nor Apple have a published EOL policy for Android or iOS, but Microsoft and BlackBerry provide clear end of life and end of sales dates for their products.

Dirty nagware from Microsoft popup appeared today on my taskbar..... talk about update by stealth????
Turned on pc running windows 7 this morning and in my bottom taskbar got an unwelcome bit of crap from Microsoft.

This "patch" comes automatically with windows update.

    "Windows 10 nagware patch KB 3035583 "

    Articles about this:
    How to remove

Windows 10 nagware patch KB 3035583 now marked 'important' on some PCs

MS Deploys Secret Win 10 Update Nag Message - KB 3035583

They were also installed on my Laptop running win 8.1 but no message on taskbar.

I used link 1 and spent some time removing and then blocking any re-install on both machines

M$oft must be getting desperate for everyone to go to Win10????

Glad both machines dual or multi-boot and have Linux Mint Mate installed

What is bad with Windows Update KB3035583 - which automatically was installed on 31th May 2015 on my Windows 8.1 Core 64-bit laptop? This program only allows you to reserve a copy of Windows 10 and if you reserved a copy then you get notified via e-Mail if Windows 10 is available for download - rumored at end of July 2015.

I reserved it. A reservation does not mean Windows 10 automatically ( without asking user ) gets installed if it is available.

I wouldn't classify Windows Update KB3035583 as "nagware". In my eyes Windows Update KB3035583 simply allows Microsoft to get a feeling how many Windows 7/8/8.1 users probably want to upgrade.

EDIT: Windows Update KB3035583 also automatically was installed today on my wife's Windows 7 Pro 32-bit laptop. She reserved a copy, too.

I'm feeling left out, haven't had any of that "nagware" on my W7 machines yet.

It must have gone out everywhere. I got one and have reserved.

Windows has got a lot cheaper since the old days.

I paid a fortune for Windows 98SE at the time, XP came with computer, dodgy copy of 7, paid $40 or something for 8 under a special deal, upgrade to 8.1 was free.

Me neither - Feeling very left out, I'm on 8.1
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.
