The free "Windows 10 Upgrade" gets installed via Windows Update. This default mechanism doesn't allow user to switch to another Windows version before updating the computer to "Windows 10 Upgrade" has finished. Afterwards, of course user at any time can re-install (clean install) either a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows 10 - no matter then whether it's a retail or OEM version - if they became available.
LOL, you had best buy the glasses, and read the link in my post before yours just once more, just for you, so it can sink in to that thick arrogant skull of yours, it refers to a "clean" install, using the upgrade media which has been the norm from XP to Vista and onwards, all you are doing now is repeating what I've already pointed out in previous posts, cottoned on yet, or do we need to wait for another 3 or 4 of your crap posts before you catch up? The link in post #57 just to help you along.

At the time of Microsoft's downloading and installation of "Windows 10 Upgrade" on my wife's Windows 7 Pro 32-bit laptop, I can tell you whether it's possible to extract from the downloaded "Windows 10 Upgrade" ( will it be an ISO that contains 2 versions? ) a 64-bit Windows 10 version you then can use to do a clean 64-bit install from, or not. At this time it will be definitely clear who of us here is posting crap: you or me. So we have to wait ...

Now it's wait and see is it? Read your own posts, your saying no, now your saying wait and see, I'll guess that next week it will be you saying "of course you can, I told you so", no need to wait to see who's talking crap, it's already you.

And don't try and say you will be limited to what's downloaded under Windows Update, you know very well that's not what the link is saying, don't try and twist your story to support your argument, tool.

So who died and made you forum police? I'm quite happy to have him talk down to you if that's what you prefer, but I'm not having a bar of it, as far as I know, the last time I checked anyway, I still had right of reply, I know its a forum, and if I cross the line I'll be told, but from where I sit this condescending prick continues to hang crap on people (and not just me) even when he knows he is in the wrong, you can sit back and say nothing, that's fine, but I won't.

And apparently you can do a clean install Windows 10 - after upgrading.

People who avail of the free upgrade to Windows 10 starting this July can do a clean reinstall of the OS on their devices without too much trouble, a Microsoft official said.

    1) This thread's topic is "free upgrade to Windows 10"
    2) Have never said you can't do a clean install of "Windows 10 Upgrade". Those here who claim this either are struck with blindness or suffer on a mental disease.

    Recap: The original post was

And I stick to it: You by nature can't use a Windows 10 Update 32-bit installation media ( as this Microsoft will download to forbirun's computer if time has come ) to perfom a Windows 10 64-bit "clean installation".

Again: If you let Windows Update upgrade your system to Windows 10 "in place", it will always do it on a like-for-like basis: 32-bit to 32-bit; 64-bit to 64-bit. If you want to move from any 32-bit version of Windows 7 & 8.1 to any 64-bit version of Windows 10, it always requires a "clean installation" from a DVD or USB drive or whatever which houses the 64-bit version of Windows 10. This will delete your old operating system, programs and data, so you will have to re-install everything from scratch. Point.

    EDIT:

Users who don't make use of free "Windows 10 Upgrade" then after 29th July 2016 have to buy Windows 10. Reportedly Windows 10 Home will cost AU$156 and Windows 10 Pro will cost AU$262 per license.

Round and Round in circles we go, you reinforce my argument for me every time you try to post, too busy espousing your superior knowledge to all and sundry, without even reading what was said, but out of respect to other members who would be sick of seeing this argument, and as per the request of Whiteox, I shall make no further comment until such time as I have updated a 32 Bit Windows 7 installation to 64 Bit Windows 10 via a "Clean" install, and then tell you I told you so.
    Cheers

Im assuming the free upgrade to the same version in Windows 10. IE if I have Windows 7 professional 64 bit it will update to Windows 10 professional 64 bit.

Also assuming after the upgrade the existing windows version and retail license will become invalid and unusable? Or am I still able to downgrade if I want remove windows 10.

I don't want to get into another argument (not with you, somebody else ) with respect to whether you can upgrade using a clean install with 32 Bit or 64 Bit ISO files (I will point out that we have always been able to use either version in previous upgrades) but below is the Upgrade Matrix and also the Upgrade Edition list for going from W7 & W8 to Windows 10, as you can see by the first table that we will be able to update via Windows Update, or (surprise surprise) via ISO files, so I will let you draw your own conclusions as to that one. If you were to use the Windows Update path and your running 64 Bit W7 Pro then your only choice via THAT path would be to 64 Bit Windows 10 Pro. Hope that helps.

    1) You got it.

    2) Strongly believe with Windows 10 Microsoft is offering the downgrade option, means you every time can go back to previous version of Windows, as this feature already was implemented in Windows 10 Technical Preview: Don't think Microsoft has dismissed this feature in retail version of Windows 10, but I don't know it; we will see.

    Example:

To get started with downgrade Windows 10 Technical Preview, open Settings and click "Update & Recovery".

Under "Update & Recovery", click "Recovery" option. On the right side, you will have the option "Go back to a previous version of Windows".

Where could you find the statement/note of Microsoft that Windows 10 will be offered at 29th July 2015 in ISO file format too, so one can bypass Windows Update? Searched the Internet for this, no luck.
