If it's not a PC with genuine Windows 7 SP1 and/or Windows 8.1 I believe the Windows 10 Free Upgrade if reserved will be uploaded to your PC, you then even can install it, but you never can activate it properly - by legal means.

You always can query whether GWX detected your existing Windows edition to be a genuine one, or not: Simply look in Windows Event Viewer, under Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > GWX-Ins

We all know that "Windows Update" doesn't work on PCs which aren't activated properly. So a Windows 10 Free Upgrade installed is useless.

Again, Microsoft said . They also said that they are planning to run some "very attractive Windows 10 upgrade offers" that will allow people with pirated copies to move to an official version.
Hmmm...Mine must be a genuine copy then
I wonder if it would detect my 'genuine' loader if I updated.

I suppose the message "Appraiser pre-req passed" indicates that all mandatory updates (KBs) released for the Windows edition you run are installed: GWX runs an "appraiser" app that checks prerequisites for the download and subsequent upgrade.
But I'm not sure of this.

Nothing happened here I can see and my Get WIN10 logo is still on the task bar but my 'Update' isnt scheduled until 29 July so maybe they are 'spreading' the down load over a few weeks?

Despite having legit, paid for versions of Win7 on my desktop and Win8.1 on my laptop, I have not been offered an invitation.

So I installed today on both my Windows 8.1 Core laptop and my wife's Windows 7 SP1 Pro laptop the Windows 10 Free Upgrade. It took about 1.5 hours ( 20% Pre-Installation, 25% Copying files, 25% Installing features & drivers, 25% Configuring settings, 5% Post-Installation) per machine. The necessary files already were downloaded automatically in the background.

After upgrading no problems encountered so far, all works properly. Even HOSTS file was left untouched!

It seems Window 10 boots faster: Under Windows 8.1.1 boot time was always ~63 secs, now it decreased to ~55 secs.
