Default NEC 42MP2 plasma - turns on then straight to standby...Y-SUS sus?

    Hi!

I've got an NEC plasma (42MP2) that I made from 2 crook units (one wouldn't start, and the other had broken screen).

Was watching it today and the set turned off by iteself, and now won't come back on.

I know the panel is fine, and have also swapped in a known good p/s from the other unit.....with either p/s installed, the set goes from power on, green, to standby - red.

I have a feeling it's the Y-SUS as I can unplug it and the power stays up for longer.

Is there a repair kit, or common components that go on these boards?

Or, because I have 2 of them, is there a way to determine which of the 3 scan IC's are good/faulty and make a good board from 2 rooted ones?

    Thanks for any ideas......

You should be able to get a 3 board repair kit but for price I have never got one (I have a feeling that its a lg panel in there)but normally you can tell what board is faulty by the blown fuse.

How much is the 3 board repair kit?? Is that the same for the LG panels?

    Hi!

    Thanks for replies.......

NEC actually make their own panels, so it's not an LG in there, but a NEC panel....one of few who still make their own (or maybe now use LG??? but this was many years back....)

As for the fuses, all meter OK....even the board mount fuses meter OK - cant find any shorted semis or open resistors...... Have read on other sites that it is the Y-sus that is common for this fault, but hoping for more info (waiting to hear from NEC re: rebuilt kit for the board)

howdy... just ran across your post... i have the same issue... with same model... i had some faint green and red lines on it and in the attempt to correct them, i seemed to have lost the entire unit... i turned unit on while i had a part disconnected and now i have a standby immediately after i turn unit on....

did you resolve your issue? any details might be useful.

yeah B4L, thats a prob with ALOT of panels, cant tell yet about the nec's as we have just recxently become thier warranty agent and havent seen many of these yet, but all the procedures are the same, look for
    1. blown fuses
2, main vcc rails short to deck
    3. unplug the y-z sus pcbs one at a time and monitor the LED
    4. check all rails from psu
    5. check for heat transfer rubbers leaching

    and if that fails

    6. take it to someone who enjoys working on these things and will do it for free
    or
7.take it to someone who will for a moderate amount of re-imbersment have a look at it for you, just dont ask if he likes doing it!
When I explained to the guy what avatar I wanted, that wasn't what I meant!
