Default 100 Years of ANZAC $1 coin - please explain

The new $1 coin has on its face

    100 Years of ANZAC
    The Spirit Lives
    2014-2018

It took me some time to realise that the Powers That Be are celebrating the centenary of each of the years in WWI, how confusing, I would have thought a more suitable memorial to the troops would have been inscribing the coin

    100 Years of ANZAC
    The Spirit Lives
    1914-2014

or do we now celebrate each year of a event where it spans more than one year? And my dusty memory of history tells me that the term ANZAC came into use in 1915, so the 100 years would be 2015?

    Agreed!

Surely since Gallopili was 1915 it should be

    100 years of ANZAC

The mint is getting close to over the top shark jumping, there seems to be a new commemorative coin released for each event, in effect creating currency which will never see circulation in a fair percentage of the released coins. I collected coins but it's a rich man's game if you are going to collect each of these coins. The idea on this lot may be that the WW1 era will be remembered for the 4 year period 100 years on.

I gave up collecting "commemorative" coins years ago, most of them will only be worth face value unless you live for a thousand years to reap any form of benefit.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Yep, thats about it unfortunately. And that's real coins, not the ones from "insert dodgy mint name" issued from Tuvalu or some other Pacific Island

Same here,my big shock was when Ebay first started in Oz.,i had a collection of over twenty years of Mint Sets and the individual years were selling for less than what i paid for them as people offloaded them.A little more balanced these days but you are up against NZ based Dealers that get 20% discount off the Mint plus no GST.They just get their mates to offload them in Oz so us mugs are 30% behind the game before you even start.
Good luck making a profit out them whilst you are still alive.
...and the Gold & Silver Coins are so far overpriced that even if Gold/Silver double in ppo you would still be behind in selling them for Bullion.

Yeah, also the Perth Mint dumps excess stock to International Dealers, mainly the large USA based ones, from time to time.
A few years back i purchased some Aust. Silver Coins off Ebay USA at a bargain price,i got a note saying "did i want anymore?",they had hundreds, apparently the Dealer purchased them at a special price(basically melt) off the Perth Mint.

    Jungle out there...
