Windows 8.1 favorites gone

Hi people as total says all my favorites have disappeared even trying to import a backup copy from a thumb drive will not restore them has anybody had this drama before also running INTERNET explorer 11

IE11: Desktop or Metro version?

If folder C:\windows\users\<your-name>\favorites doesn't exist or is empty, then you have lost.

If not: Have you IE 11 Favorites Bar enabled? IE 11 has Favorites Bar hidden by default. To use Favorites Bar, right-click an empty space in Internet Explorer 11 Title Bar and click Favorites bar to display the bar.

thanks for your reply the favorites folder is there but all the folders are empty as for the favorites bar I have it enabled but nothing i have also tried a restore to well back after I lost them all but still nothing also I found a bookmark folder on a old system tried to import that but still nothing
