Default What is starting on startup windows 7

I know you can use msconfig and a couple of other tools to show you a start up list.

Is there something you can use to get a list of what starts up in what sequence etc, until you can finally use your pc? Like a chronological list/sequential log.

    Thanks.

What makes Windows run and offer so many features to so many different applications are the Windows Services. With the use of services, Windows is able to manage your network connections, plays sound in your speakers, remember your passwords and credentials, display colors on your screen and so on.

To get to the services available - and running - on your Windows 7 computer, the quick way is to type "services" in the search box from the Start Menu and then select either "Services" from Programs or "View local services" from the Control Panel results.

You will get a Services snap-in window similar to the one below

Walking through the list offered you can see whether a service is started, or not. Also the dependencies of a service are shown. A service's startup type can be
    either

Automatic => the service will be started at boot time.

    or

Automatic (Delayed Start) => the service will start after the system has loaded all the other services set to automatically start.

Another tool that is built into Win8 & should be in W7 (apparently not), is the Task Manager - Start-up Tab.

Edit2; For Win 7 go here

I'll leave the rest up for Win8 users.

BTW; for those that don't know, access is Right click the task bar at bottom of screen & select Task Manager.

Where you can see what is starting up with your pc, it's impact on start-up & you can disable or enable start-up progs with a simple right click.
Also with right click you can investigate the program with options such as Expand (if it has multiple parts) or Open file location, Search online & properties.

Edit: Just noticed iTunes Helper is enabled on my system & so has just been disabled. probably turns itself on every time I update iTunes.

    Looks like this.

The only one that is enabled & doesn't need to run in that list is Dropbox,Ink, unless you want it to run.
The rest that are already disabled, you don't need them running.

The SunJavaUpdateSched(uler) is a maybe, depends on weather you want Java to check for updates or not?
Java is necessary for some websites to run.

    Hope that helps.

If you mean your Windows 7 is too slow when it boots, then simply utilize Fast Startup (A.K.A. hybrid boot) - as this is the default with Windows 8.x and people are so impressed of - instead of powering off Windows 7 by a Full Shutdown.

In short: The trick is to force a specific system event - means shutdown - to use and process a one-line script as follows
    Code:
    "%windir%\System32\shutdown.exe /l"
Do a Google-search for "Windows 7 hybrid boot" to get more informations.

another thing to consider is, your boot maybe slowed due to HDD access slowing up due to end of life.

amazes me how people (me) sit in front of a computer for hours on end mainly through boredom but get worried when it takes over 30 seconds to boot up

Thanks everyone, all your information appreciated.

I guess my minor gripe is on start up, in that, all seems to go along as normal, the microsoft splash screen comes up ( I have bypassed the logon required), the home page comes up...and then it slows up. It seems ages until I can actually click say the FF browser icon, and get that to go. No blue circle spins or anything before it,and if I click, I then get no responses at all, and it sits for a long time (60 seconds maybe...I will time it) before I can get the pc to do something.

I thought I had disabled most things required, and that seems evident from your suggestions. It was interesting to see in the linked thread not to use msconfig to disable things.

Looks like I will just need to put up with it, and make a cup of tea as I hit the on button. I guess a clean up of the drives and a reformat would not go astray, but I hate having to do all those little installs that are required, from the accumulated programs you use...grrr

    Thanks all...

edit...I know it is not the right thread, but the fault in the database throwing your latest post randomly within the thread is still a pain...to get them back in order I have to close the thread and come back in.

Just go make a cup of tea while it boots. Sitting there watching it boot is like watching the kettle.
