If nothing happens at all when trying a hard reset, (hold down on power button while holding lower right corner of touch screen), your battery may be flat or dead.
This could happen due to unpowered USB port on some PC's, which allows the Nuvi battery to go flat during an update. Although I wouldn't think that the Nuvi would connect to the PC without a powered USB port.

Does the GPS power up at all when connected to a power source?

If not you could try the hard reset while connected to power source to get it up & running then abort the reset, when "Erase all user data?" appears, touch no.
Or say yes to restore to factory defaults, this will erase your favourites, no big deal.

There is also another procedure that provides a service mode handshake and then prompt for a screen recalibration.
Hold power button while holding upper left of screen, maybe that will wake it up or get you connected to your PC.

    Good luck.
    Cheers, Tiny

Thanks for the reply Tiny, The Garmin wont turn on at all tried to do all the reset options
dont even think it charges sits their like a brick
Didn't update the firmware or anything had a good charge when downloading the maps
when finished it just went dead
Is there a garmin in Sydney area, really I think they should be liable for their faulty map updates
and make you buy another and hear this is quite common

There is a forum member called Surething that said he knows how to unbrick these things a while back, I should have asked him how.
Maybe he'll drop in & tell us or you could find one of his posts & PM him.

Sorry guys, haven't logged on for a while. To 'unbrick', i.e. cure a unit, it firstly needs to be able to power up [if it shows a splash screen i can unbrick it generally].

johno78, plug it into a rear PC port or a laptop and hold the power button down for several minutes to see if it livens up. If it doesn't, take it into a very dark room [like a walk in wardrobe], hold the power button down for >30 secs and watch the screen closely to see if it shows a very dim light.

    Please report back your findings.
